  • North Oldham holds off Spencer...

    GOSHEN – North Oldham coach Chris Stobaugh has conceded the fact his Mustangs will be locked in close games all year.

    “We’re not going to blow anybody out and we’re good enough not to get blown out,” Stobaugh said, “so every game’s going to be close.”

    North won another close one Tuesday night, beating Spencer County 53-50 on its home floor.

    The Colonels beat Greenwood (Ind.) 41-25, lost to Columbus East (Ind.) 33-29 and tied with Lawrence North (Ind.) 29-29.

    Friday night the son of former Oldham County star Jeff Griffin and the younger brother of former South Oldham standout Carson Fields each got to put their own stamps on basketball in the county.

    Fields came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers and Griffin hit the game-winning 3 with 20 seconds left as South knocked off OC, 62-58. They helped the Dragons win a game they trailed 50-40 at one point during the fourth quarter.

    “I counted it up today,” OC coach Jace Bryant said, “and the last 12 meetings, they’re leading the series 10-2.”

    Ashley McMurtrey scored 24 points, including the game’s last seven, Friday as the Lady Colonels finally took down their archrival, 53-47 at South.
