  • OC's Nuernberger ready for...

    Pressure comes as part of the job when you’re a football kicker.

       And for Oldham County’s Sean Nuernberger, there was plenty of pressure in just securing the job he hopes is his for the next four years.

       This summer Nuernberger was one of several highly touted high schoolers from across the nation to travel to Columbus, Ohio for what amounted to an open tryout to become Ohio State’s next kicker.

       LEXINGTON – North Oldham’s penalty kick magic finally ran out Saturday night.

       A Mustang team that had twice kept its season alive on PK shootouts the past two weeks lost one 2-1 Saturday in the state quarterfinals. North fell 1-0 to Bowling Green at Bell Stadium at Henry Clay High School.

       The loss ends the winningest season in school history for the Mustangs (20-5-1). The state quarterfinal loss also marks North’s deepest postseason run.

  • Mustangs open 4A playoffs with...

       North Oldham will open the Class 4A football playoffs  against a familiar opponent.

       North (7-3) welcomes Doss (6-4) to Mustang Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the state playoffs. The Dragons ended the Mustangs’ season one year ago with a 36-27 result in Louisville. 

       In that game North got out to a lead before Doss came back to beat the Mustangs in the first playoff round.

    The Lady Colonels took control early and used two second half goals to put away Bowling Green 3-0 in the first round of the state girls soccer tournament at Lafayette High School in Lexington. OC advances to take on Sacred Heart in the state semifinals Thursday night.

    INDEPENDENCE – The schedule will show 2013's Oldham County volleyball team lost three of its four matches against rival for North Oldham. All the Lady Colonels will care about is that the one win came in the team's most important meeting of the year.

    OC finally took down the Lady Mustangs Thursday night in the Region 8 volleyball championship, 3-1, at Joe Stark Memorial Gymnasium at Simon Kenton High School.
