  • Lenhart wins in Ohio

    North Oldham golfer Mason Lenhart won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship this weekend at Yankee Trace in Centerville, Ohio.

    The Prospect native shot a two-day 146, including an even-par 72 Sunday.

    Lenhart then beat Dayton, Ohio’s Tripp French in a playoff, taking advantage of French’s missed par putt.

    Lenhart recorded a tournament-high seven birdies, including five on Sunday.

    With the win, he received an invitation to the 2014 Mid-Season Invitational and Tour Championship.
     

  • Softball district tourney set

    The county’s softball teams will play for District 29’s two region tournament spots next week in Bedford.

    The district tournament will start with semifinal games Tuesday. Oldham County will meet South Oldham in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, with North Oldham playing at tournament host Trimble County at 7:30 that night.

    The winners of those two games clinch spots in the district title game May 22 and the Region 8 Tournament the following week at Gallatin County.

    Oldham County Middle School’s baseball team will take part in the middle school state baseball tournament this weekend at Lindsey Wilson College.

    The tournament gives middle school teams from across the state the chance to compete and decide a champion.

    The Colonels will receive an escort from school Friday as they make the trip south, coach Mark Viehmann said.

    OCMS’ junior varsity and varsity teams have combined to go 31-4 this year, Viehmann said.

    Drew Lively has experience starting big games for South Oldham.

    But some special nerves were running through Lively’s left arm when he took the mound in relief of teammate Eddie Mathis April 9 against Trimble County.

    Mathis had pitched six perfect innings against the Raiders. Lively was coming in to face the top of the Trimble order, needing to retire three hitters in order to clinch the program’s first ever perfect game.

    LOUISVILLE – North Oldham was the class of the track Tuesday night at the region championships.

    The boys and girls teams swept the Class 2A, Region 3 track and field championships during a humid night at Christian Academy-Louisville.

    On the boys side, the Mustangs scored 154 points, out-pacing Moore (65), CAL (59), Spencer County (57) and Henry County (56).

    As for the girls, the Lady Mustangs tallied a commanding 213 points. They soundly defeated host CAL (86), Waggener (61), Shelby County (54) and Collins (43).

  • Pitts leads local state tennis...

    South Oldham’s Jordan Pitts is out to make some noise this week coming off his fourth straight Region 8 title.

    Pitts will be the No. 5 seed in the boys singles state tournament. He’ll lead a group of 11 singles or doubles competitors representing North Oldham, Oldham County and South Oldham High Schools and St. Francis.
