    GOSHEN – Oldham County celebrated its third straight district title over South Oldham at this time last season. The Colonels were going into the Region 8 tournament as a favorite to get back to the Boys Sweet 16 for the third straight year.

    But they met South again in the Region 8 title game and in that meeting the Dragons came out on top, advancing to state for the first time with a 58-48 win.

    GOSHEN – Facing a South Oldham team that plays six senior guards, the two best guards on the court Friday night were two Oldham County juniors.

    Hayden Hawes scored a game-high 27 points and Connor Hicks added 20 as OC beat South 74-67 at North Oldham Friday to win its fourth straight District 29 title.

    The Colonels (22-6) will face either Collins, Henry County or Simon Kenton in the first round of next week’s Region 8 tournament at Henry County. The draw to determine the region bracket is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

    That history made it so much sweeter Friday night when OC players dog-piled senior Ashley McMurtrey at half court as the final horn sounded.

    The Lady Colonels halted the Lady Dragons’ district domination with a 50-43 win Friday at North Oldham in the District 29 finals. The win marked OC’s first district tournament title since beating South in 2008.
