  • Maier comes in fourth at Polo...

    Goshen resident Josh Maier shot a four-over 76 to finish fourth in the championship boys division at the Musselman-Dunne Golf Tour (MDGT) event held at The Polo Fields Golf & Country Club on Saturday in Louisville.

    Maier shot a 38 on both the front and back nines.  He finished six shots off the pace set by tournament champion D.J. Vogt of Louisville.

    Prospect resident and Maier’s North Oldham teammate Michael Vissing shot a six-over 78 to finish in a tie for eighth.

  • Brown wins at Hidden Cove

    La Grange resident Michael Brown shot an 11-over par 83 on May 31 to finish in a first-place tie in the boys 15-16 division at the KYPGA Junior event at Hidden Cove Golf Course in Olive Hill.

    Brown, an Oldham County golfer, tied for first with Sonny Foreman of Mt. Washington. He parred seven of his final nine holes.

    La Grange resident Marco Valenzuela finished fifth, shooting a 21-over 93.

    Two shortstops shared top billing among county baseball players this spring.

    Oldham County shortstop Austin Norman and South Oldham shortstop Drew Greenwood were named co-District 29 players of the year by the district’s coaches.

    Both will play college baseball close to home next year. Norman will play for Indiana University-Southeast while Greenwood will play at Bellarmine University.

    OC’s Norman, South’s Greenwood and Eddie Mathis and North Oldham’s Ethan Cleary and Andrew Pennybaker were all named to the All-Region 8 team.

    For Oldham County’s Coy Zerhusen, it’s about fine-tuning an experienced group expected to contend for a Region 8 title.

    For South Oldham’s Steve Simpson, this summer is about laying the foundation for an entirely new team after losing nearly all of the players off last year’s region champion team to graduation.

    The teams’ experience levels showed June 5, as the Colonels beat the Dragons 49-34 during a summer league game hosted by OC.

    Dallas Robinson has enjoyed once-in-a-lifetime experiences by simply saying ‘Yes.’

    Robinson said ‘Yes’ to a job with the Kentucky National Guard that allowed him to work with families dealing with deployment of their loved ones. He said ‘Yes’ to mentoring young adults as a track and field coach at Georgetown College. He said ‘Yes’ to representing his country athletically as a member of the U.S. Olympic bobsled team.
