  • Lady Colonels snap South’s...

GOSHEN – Five times the last five years Oldham County’s girls have taken on South Oldham with a district title on the line. All five times the Lady Colonels found themselves on the losing end.

That history made it so much sweeter Friday night when OC players dog-piled senior Ashley McMurtrey at half court as the final horn sounded.

The Lady Colonels halted the Lady Dragons’ district domination with a 50-43 win Friday at North Oldham in the District 29 finals. The win marked OC’s first district tournament title since beating South in 2008.

  • Lady Dragons survive Trimble in...

GOSHEN – South Oldham’s District 29 tournament win over Trimble County Thursday played out a lot like its regular season win over the Lady Raiders.

In the regular season meeting earlier this month, the Lady Dragons took an early lead, then watched as Trimble spent the game chipping away. A Lady Raider 3-pointer missed at the buzzer and South held on for a 49-46 win.

  • Oldham hits North with second...

GOSHEN – Oldham County didn't have all its pieces available Thursday night, but it still got the job done.

Guards Hayden Hawes and Jordan Gates scored 18 and 17 points each and the Colonels advanced in the district tournament with a 66-48 over North Oldham on the Mustangs’ home floor.

The win clinches OC (21-6) a spot in next week’s Region 8 tournament and a spot opposite South Oldham in Friday night’s District 29 championship game. North (11-17) ends its year on a five-game losing streak after beating South Feb. 10.

  • Stephens: Tee’s big night joyful...

GOSHEN – Sports provide the full range of emotions, but too often it’s the negative emotions we see on display.

The rage from a parent yelling at an official, the disappointment of an unexpected loss, the sadness of a season coming to an end – the negatives are easy to spot.

But Friday at North Oldham we got to see an emotion you don’t often see on a court or field, but one that’s as noticeable as any.

    We saw pure joy.
