  • Pratt: A first-time perspective...

LOUISVILLE - No one from Louisville is really from Louisville.

That’s what I’m told by the bus driver at 7 a.m. on my way to Churchill Downs on Friday.

He’s right in a sense. I’m not from here and neither was he. Neither were the other two media gentlemen I sat with at the front of the bus. I don’t know the bus drivers name, but I knew he wasn’t from around here by his accent.

  • ROUNDING THE BASES: Straker...

CRESTWOOD - North Oldham and South Oldham are building a reputation of close contests. Despite getting 10 hits, the Mustangs struggled to bring them home in a 3-2 loss at South Wednesday night.

South took advantage of three errors from North to win even with just two hits. Nathan Straker took the lead for good by stealing home with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

GOSHEN — North Oldham football was a bit more eager to put on pads for spring practice this season than in years past. The Mustangs still have a sour taste in their mouths with the way the 2014 season ended in the Class 4A semifinals.

  • Lady Dragons gaining momentum...

CRESTWOOD —South Oldham lacrosse coach Bob Newton hopes his team’s best playing days are still to come, and it seems that the Lady Dragons are warming up to those days now. South capped its home schedule with an 11-4 win over Atherton last Thursday for Senior Night. South, only in its second year with a girls lacrosse program, graduates 10 seniors that Newton calls the “backbone” of the program.
