    A former Colonel is steadily climbing the pro baseball ranks.

    Dean Kiekhefer is approaching the end of his first season with the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

    Kiekhefer, who was promoted from Double-A Springfield earlier this season, has pitched 32 games this season for Memphis as of Monday.

    The left-handed relief pitcher owns a 2-3 record with a 2.54 ERA. He’s struck out 41 batters in 46 innings while pitching a primarily middle relief role.

    Defending region runner-up North Oldham shot a team score of 293 Monday at the Oldham County Country Club, finishing second to defending region champ St. Xavier (285) in the Sixth Annual Oldham County Classic.

    Tournament host Oldham County (339) was 10th in a field primarily made up of Louisville-area schools. South Oldham (346) was 13th.

  • Danner, Harris win Fastline 5K

    130 people took part in Saturday’s Fastline Funraiser 5K race in Buckner despite misty conditions that turned to rain as many neared the finish line.

    Andrew Danner (16:18) and Tracy Harris (19:20) were the men’s and women’s champions, respectively.

    The last race in the series is Sept. 20, benefiting Apple Patch.
