  • Girls Basketball: Collins takes...

BUCKNER – One day after winning at the buzzer, Oldham County lost at the horn Saturday afternoon.

Collins senior Mary Borders hit a 3-pointer deep in the right corner before the clock hit zero, giving the Lady Titans a 42-41 road win at OC.

The last-second loss came less than 24 hours after Lady Colonel guard Kasey Wernert hit a buzzer-beating right-handed floater to sink Gallatin County 51-50 on the same floor.

OC led 37-30 in the final minutes before coach Jace Bryant said his team gave the game away.

  • Boys Basketball: Cantrell powers...

CRESTWOOD – Injuries have forced South Oldham coach Steve Simpson to spend the last month tweaking his lineup.

One of those tweaks has been to move sophomore Cooper Cantrell from the bench into the lineup. And after originally having him play point guard in place of injured junior Grant Williams, Simpson has moved Cantrell off the ball to small forward.

Cantrell scored 13 points in a loss to Mercer County Tuesday, then played his career game Thursday night.

The Lady Dragons (10-7, 2-0 district) can now clinch the top seed in next month's district tournament if they beat Trimble County at home on Feb. 2.

  • Boys Basketball: Hard-to-guard...

Jalen Henry cracked up Monday when he was asked how a team might go about guarding his older brother, Jon Jon Henry.

“I really don’t know,” Jalen said. “I guess you’d have to play him really close, just don’t let him get the ball… But I don’t think you can stop that, really.”

Not many people have stopped Jon Jon Henry this season.

LAWRENCEBURG – All it took was one look.

Deadlocked in a 68-68 duel with Anderson County and less than 30 seconds to play, North Oldham's Taylor Heckenberg glanced to his right. A simple backdoor play was there for the taking.

Heckenberg found Jon Jon Henry behind the Anderson defense for a layup. Fouled on the play, Henry converted the 3-point play that powered North to a 73-71 win over the host Bearcats in a Region 8 showdown Tuesday.
