  • Boys Basketball: Colonels notch...

SHELBYVILLE – Oldham County had plenty of motivation heading into its game Friday against Shelby County.

The Colonels, ranked No. 14 in the state, were playing a fellow Region 8 contender in front of a big road crowd in perhaps the region’s most storied rivalry.

Then came the fact the Rockets chose this game as their basketball Homecoming.

“At first we were kind of confused why they would have us in on Homecoming night,” senior guard Connor Hicks said. “(Coach Coy Zerhusen) said that was going to be a mistake.”

SHELBYVILLE – Oldham County took the region’s second-rated team down to the wire Friday but didn’t make enough plays to finish the job.

Savannah Raizor scored 14 points to lead favored Shelby County over OC in a 40-36 contest at Mike Casey Gymnasium.

The Lady Colonels held every other Lady Rocket to seven or less points scored, but they couldn’t score enough of their own to win the game.
