    CRESTWOOD – Trent Bouvet staked South Oldham to an early lead Saturday night and Grant Williams helped the Dragons hold it.

    Bouvet and Williams combined to score 45 points as South beat Bourbon County 85-76 in the semifinals of the Coach Bob Classic.

    CRESTWOOD – North Oldham earned an advantage on the backboards Saturday and, in turn, earned a victory on the scoreboard.

    The Mustangs out-rebounded Gallatin County 43-20 and beat the Wildcats 67-56 in the semifinals of South Oldham’s Coach Bob Classic.

    North will meet South at 8 p.m. Sunday night in the championship game. The Dragons beat Bourbon County 85-76 in the other semifinal.

    The Mustangs (7-5) have now won seven of their last eight games after starting the season 0-4.

  • Boys Basketball: South honoring...

    When South Oldham coach Steve Simpson started the team’s Christmas break tournament last year, he wanted to name the event each year after a different person who was important to the school.

    The 2013 event was named after John Fendley, a late county attorney who’d been a devoted South basketball fan.

    For the tournament’s second run, Simpson looked to his own coaching staff.

    The Dragons and seven other teams will compete this weekend in the Coach Bob Classic, named for South assistant Bob Simpson.

    There was one slot left to be announced in the inaugural College Football Playoff bracket. Big 12 Conference co-champions Baylor and TCU and Nuernberger’s team, Big 10 Conference champ Ohio State, were the options to fill it.

    North Oldham swam to a combined third-place finish this weekend at the 13th Annual Woodford County Invitational in Versailles.

    North (410 points) trailed only Madison Central (561.5) and Elizabethtown (513) in the combined standings.

    North’s girls (247) finished third to E’Town (300) and Madison Central (263).

    The Mustang boys (163) were fifth to Madison Central (298.5), E’Town (213), Scott County (213) and Collins (192).

    Oldham County and South Oldham’s girls swimming teams both competed at the Girls Night Out swim meet Friday in Louisville.

    South (100 points) finished fourth behind Notre Dame (212), Sacred Heart (203) and Cincinnati St. Ursula (178).

    OC (32) tied for seventh in the 14-team event.

    County top five finishers included:

    –100-yard breast: 4. Emma Skinner, Oldham County, 1:09.31

    –100 medley relay: 4. South Oldham, :57.62
