    Covington Catholic football showed why it has been ranked as the top team in Class 5-A, defeating South Oldham 49-7 in Crestwood to win the Region 2 title and advance to the state semi-finals. The Dragons fell behind early and were never able to recover against a team that has won all 13 games this season by 21 or more points.

    Everyone sitting on the home side of the stands may have been in panic mode as South Oldham football faced a 13-point deficit with eight minutes left in the second round of the Class 5-A playoffs, but the rallying cry “no one beats the Dragons in the fourth quarter” held true and South Oldham defeated Highlands 35-34 in a come-from-behind victory.

  • Well timed bye for South football

    With a first round bye in the Class 5-A playoffs, South Oldham football reverted back to fundamentals in practice while nursing several injuries as the Dragons prepare for Highlands Friday night.

    Before the bye week, South Oldham had played eight weeks in a row, which took a physical toll on the players.

    St. Xavier (Louisville) defeated Oldham County 6-1 in the KHSAA boys state soccer tournament quarterfinals Saturday at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington. A flurry of three St. X goals in a 73-second span in the second half denied any chance of a Colonel comeback after Oldham County fell behind 2-0 in the first half.
