  • Football: North hosts OC Friday

    Oldham County and North Oldham’s three-year series has gone to the smaller school each time.

    North’s Mustangs, who play in Class 4A, have beaten the Class 6A Colonels in all three meetings, including a 31-28 win last August in Buckner.

    The teams will play their annual game at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Goshen. It will be the season opener for North, while OC comes in 0-1.

    Continuing the winning streak is a point of pride for the Mustangs, senior wing back Arien Beasley said.

  • Football: South Oldham visits...

    South Oldham also had its opener canceled due to inclement weather. The Dragons were supposed to play at West Jessamine late last Friday in the second game of the Visitnich.com Bowl.

    But West Jessamine administration canceled the game due to lightning and did so a little earlier than South coach Jamie Reed expected.

    Now South will play defending 4A state champion Collins Friday in Shelbyville having played just a three-quarter scrimmage against Shelby County Aug. 15.

    Collins lost 33-14 at Simon Kenton in its opener last week.

    North Oldham, Oldham County or South Oldham has won the region every year since that time, with OC taking the crown last season.

    With OC and North both in the preseason top 15 and South getting better, South coach Amy Grimm expects that District 29 dominance to continue in 2014.

    “Of course the three best teams in our region are in Oldham County,” Grimm said. “It’s North, South and OC every year.

  • Volleyball: North handles Lady...

    GOSHEN – North Oldham got a breather Monday after four straight five-set matches to start the year.

    The Lady Mustangs overpowered visiting North Bullitt to win their third match of the season, 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-7).

    The win included a 14-0 North Oldham run in the first set after it trailed 10-9 at one point.

    Monday’s win was the first home victory in first-year coach Brett Versen’s tenure. The Lady Mustangs are 3-2 and have won their last three matches.

  • Boys golf: North repeats as...

    North Oldham posted a team score of 300 (+12) Saturday to win the 2014 Bulldog Classic at Lindsey Golf Course at Fort Knox.

    The Mustangs defended their title by beating runner-up St. Henry by 22 strokes.

    North's Mason Lenhart earned second medalist, shooting a 71 (-1).

    Following him was Tyler Reller, who shot a 73 (+1).

    Next for the Mustangs were Michael Vissing (77, +5), Josh Maier (79, +7) and Crosby Cameron (85, +13).
     

  • Football: Turnovers cost OC in...

    BUCKNER – Oldham County had to wait an extra two hours to start the Mike Shatzer era Friday.

    After a tough loss, the Colonels will have to wait at least another week for their first Shatzer-era win.

    Iroquois took a 22-19 lead with less than three minutes left on a long Larry Jackson touchdown run, then sealed the game with a Germone Kohn interception return touchdown to beat OC 29-19 at Bell Field.

    The loss was the first at OC for Shatzer, hired during the offseason to replace Matt Brown.
