  • District 29 baseball: Lively no-hits Trimble
GOSHEN – Last month Drew Lively teamed with fellow senior pitcher Eddie Mathis to throw a perfect game against Trimble County. Monday Lively nearly repeated that feat on his own. Lively pitched five no-hit innings as South Oldham beat Trimble 10-0 in the first round of the District 29 tournament at North Oldham. The win clinched No. 1 seed South a spot in Wednesday’s district title game, which was played after The Era’s press deadline. The Dragons also punched a ticket to the Region 8 tournament, which begins Monday at Henry County.

  • Lively, Mathis 1-2 punch for 1-seed South
Drew Lively has experience starting big games for South Oldham. But some special nerves were running through Lively’s left arm when he took the mound in relief of teammate Eddie Mathis April 9 against Trimble County. Mathis had pitched six perfect innings against the Raiders. Lively was coming in to face the top of the Trimble order, needing to retire three hitters in order to clinch the program’s first ever perfect game.

South Oldham’s Jordan Pitts is out to make some noise this week coming off his fourth straight Region 8 title. Pitts will be the No. 5 seed in the boys singles state tournament.
