  • OC wrestling takes first in Region 5
    Oldham County will go to state this weekend with a deep roster of competitors. The Colonels won the Region 5 wrestling championship Saturday at Western Hills High School in Frankfort, beating second place Woodford County 265-229. North Oldham (175) finished fourth and South Oldham (99.5) finished sixth. OC qualified 12 wrestlers for this weekend’s state tournament, which begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Alltech Arena in Lexington. North qualified six wrestlers and South qualified four.
  • Oglesby matches Mary T
    LOUISVILLE – Grace Oglesby, like most talented swimmers in the Louisville area, said she knows the name of Mary T. Meagher. The North Oldham sophomore will now get to see her name right alongside Meagher’s in the record books. Oglesby won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.66 seconds Saturday in the Region 2 championships at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. That mark tied a regional record set by Meagher in 1982. Meagher, who swam for Sacred Heart, went on to win three gold medals in the 1984 Summer Olympics and a bronze in 1988.
  • Feb. 14 county sports events canceled
    Winter weather projected to hit the region Friday afternoon has caused the cancelation of the day's sporting events. The KHSAA Region 2 swimming prelims set for Friday at the University of Louisville have been postponed. Girls prelims will begin at noon Saturday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Boys prelims will begin at 6 p.m. The finals will start at 11 a.m. Sunday. Also, the following basketball games slated for Friday night have been canceled. Boys: Boyle County at South Oldham Christian Academy-Louisville at Oldham County
  • South girls beats Trimble in district preview
    BEDFORD – South Oldham and Trimble County will play a more important game in a couple of weeks. But Wednesday night the Lady Dragons made people picking against them in that game take a second look. South held a streaking Lady Raider team to just two first quarter points and held on for a 49-46 road win.
  • Colonels win Mustang Classic
    Oldham County’s Zac Brooks (above, right) and other wrestlers from OC, North Oldham and South Oldham competed in the Mustang Classic Saturday at North. The Colonels won the event with a team score of 210, followed by Woodford County (189) and Trinity (169.5). North (72) came in eighth and South (67) was 10th in the 20-team event. OC had three winners: Sam Gnadinger, 152-pound class, Max Emerson, 170-pound class and Alex McIntosh, 195-pound class. Will Jennings came in second in the 160-pound class.
  • District 29 seeds set, South gets No. 1
    South Oldham was upset by North Oldham Monday night, but the Dragons are still in prime position for the upcoming District 29 boys basketball tournament. South (15-3, 2-1 District 29) will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament, which will be played two weeks from now at North. OC (18-5, 2-1) will be the second seed, North (11-12, 2-1) will be No. 3 and Trimble County (9-11, 0-3) will be the fourth seed. The winners of the South vs. Trimble and North vs. OC games will advance to the Region 8 tournament.
  • Mustangs make a statement
    GOSHEN – North Oldham saved its best performance of the year for one of its biggest rivals. The Mustangs out-scored South Oldham 64-41 over the final three quarters Monday and picked up a 76-63 win over their district neighbor. North (11-12, 2-1 District 29) handed South (15-3, 2-1) just its third loss of the year, and first in district play. The Mustangs, Dragons and Oldham County are now all tied for first in the district with 2-1 records.
  • South at North boys postponed to Monday
    We’ll have to wait a little longer to see North Oldham and South Oldham square off in boys basketball. Due to inclement weather, the Dragons-Mustangs matchup scheduled for tonight will be played at 7:30 p.m. Monday at North. That game bumps South’s matchup with Iroquois, originally scheduled for Monday, off the schedule. The Iroquois game likely won’t be made up, South AD Mitchell Irvin said. South’s district girls game at Trimble County has been postponed to Wednesday, Feb. 12.
  • All Feb. 4 basketball games canceled
    A winter storm projected to hit Oldham County Tuesday afternoon has forced a cancelation of the night’s slate of basketball games. One of those games is the annual regular season boys game between North Oldham and South Oldham, scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at North. That game has been postponed to the same time Wednesday. Oldham County’s boys game at Eastern has also been canceled, with no makeup date yet announced.
  • Sweet 16 pairings drawn, 8th girls get 3rd, 8th boys get 2nd
    The road to a 2014 state title won’t be easy for any team coming out of Region 8. Brackets for the girls and boys Sweet 16 tournaments were drawn Monday afternoon during a special KHSAA selection show. The Region 8 girls champion will face the Region 3 champ in the first round of the Girls Sweet 16 at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. Meanwhile the Region 8 boys champ will face the Region 2 champ at noon Wednesday, March 19 at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
