  • District 29 volleyball: North, OC win openers
    North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC. No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader. No. 2 seed OC swept South 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) in the second match. The Lady Mustangs and Lady Colonels will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Buckner in the district title match.
  • Region 8 girls soccer: Lady Dragons roll past Henry
    GOSHEN – Facing one of the state’s toughest schedules, No. 8 South Oldham rarely gets the chance for a breather. The Lady Dragons got that chance Monday and overwhelmed Henry County by a score of 9-0 in a Region 8 Tournament quarterfinal at North Oldham. Senior Stephanie Rowland scored a team-high four goals for South (17-4), which will meet Simon Kenton (8-10-1) in a semifinal match at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walton-Verona.
  • Boys District 29 soccer: South beats North in epic penalty shootout
    GOSHEN – South Oldham vs. North Oldham, Chapter Two of (a Likely) Three, had everything you could want in a game Saturday afternoon. There was quality defense, an underdog taking an early lead, a favorite battling back – while down a man – to tie, some controversy and, finally, a 12-round penalty kick shootout.
  • Girls District 29: Focused South cruises past North for title
    GOSHEN – Nearly three weeks ago, with the regular season district title on the line, North Oldham went into Dragon Stadium, out-played South Oldham and left with an upset victory. That 1-0 home loss on Sept. 29 served as a wakeup call for the Lady Dragons, according to senior L.J. Wrightington. “It’s like a mind-check to realize that you’re not always going to win everything,” Wrightington said. “You’re not just going to have everything handed to you.”
  • Football: Dragon defense dominates as South wins district finale
    CRESTWOOD – Several scenarios existed for South Oldham to win the district's No. 1 playoff seed going into its home finale Friday night against Scott. But all the plausible scenarios included at least one requirement – the Dragons had to beat the Eagles. South’s defense stepped up to that challenge, shutting out Scott over the last three quarters and paving the way for a 17-6 win at Dragon Stadium.
  • Friday football primer: South hosts Scott in important district game
    Scott at South Oldham, 7:30 South Oldham put itself behind the proverbial 8-ball by losing its Class 5-A, District 5 opener on Sept. 26 to Conner. But the Dragons (5-2, 2-1) played themselves back into the mix for a district crown with a 21-9 road win Oct. 3 at Grant County and 27-21 home victory last week over Cooper. South will close its district slate when it hosts Scott (5-1, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. in Crestwood.
  • District 29 girls soccer: Rowland scores 100th, South eliminates OC
    CRESTWOOD – Stephanie Rowland reached a milestone while helping keep her team’s season alive on Wednesday night. Rowland assisted one goal and scored another as South Oldham beat Oldham County 2-0 in a District 29 semifinal match in the rain at Dragon Stadium. Rowland’s goal was her 100th at South. She didn’t have much reaction to the milestone, saying, “I play forward, so I guess I’m supposed to score.”
  • Boys soccer: New position, same production for Lister
    Christian Lister’s been on the field for South Oldham’s varsity ever since he was a ninth-grader for the Dragons. He started out his career as a defensive player for South and moved to central midfield, where he was third on the team in goals in 2012 and second on the team in 2013. Coach Kenny Burke wanted to try Lister at a third position for his senior year – forward.
  • Volleyball: Grimm gets 300th win
    South Oldham volleyball coach Amy Grimm won her 300th career match with the Lady Dragons on Friday, beating Bishop Brossart 2-0. Grimm, a five-year varsity volleyball letter winner and graduate of South (’96), has been playing and coaching volleyball since she was five.   She started her playing career at St. Aloysius Elementary School prior to playing her middle and high school ball at South Oldham.  
  • Soccer: District 29 Tournament rescheduled
    Rain showers that hit Oldham County on Monday and Tuesday mornings have forced the District 29 soccer tournament to be rescheduled. The tournament, which was scheduled to start on Monday night at Oldham County, will now begin Wednesday night. South Oldham and Oldham County's girls soccer teams will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at OC in the first semifinal. North Oldham and OC's boys teams will play their semifinal match after that.
