  • New Team, Dream Accomplished
    NEW CASTLE – South Oldham’s team motto all season has been “New Team, Same Dream.” The Dragons now have a new motto, according to senior guard Drew Bullock. “ ‘New Team, Dream Accomplished,’ that’s what it is!” Bullock said Tuesday night. South accomplished its dream of going back to the Boys Sweet 16, beating Simon Kenton 50-47 Tuesday at Henry County in overtime of the boys Region 8 title game.
  • South survives Collins, advances to finals
    NEW CASTLE – Collins had four chances to end South Oldham's season Monday night in the boys Region 8 semifinals. But after 36 minutes of play, the Dragons had survived and advanced. South held on to beat the Titans 63-62 in overtime Monday at Henry County, advancing to Tuesday night's regional championship. The Dragons will play Simon Kenton at 7 p.m. Tuesday, looking to win their second straight and second ever Region 8 title.
  • Bullock, South shoot into semis
    NEW CASTLE – A bedrock basketball rule saved South Oldham's season Thursday night while Owen County's Carson Williams was scoring 37 points and grabbing 21 rebounds. Three points are always better than two. South hit 14 3-pointers, seven of which came from Drew Bullock, and the Dragons overcame Williams' post dominance to beat the Rebels 84-77 in the boys Region 8 tournament at Henry County. South, the defending region champ, advanced to a Monday night semifinal against Collins.
  • South meets Owen Co.
    South Oldham has seen Owen County forward Carson Williams’ talent firsthand. The Rebels’ sophomore forward scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds when the teams met Feb. 15 in Crestwood, an 82-70 Dragons win. South will try for another win against Williams and his teammates at 8 p.m. Thursday when the Dragons (19-4) meet Owen County (18-9) in the first round of the Region 8 tournament at Henry County. Collins, which beat South 60-42 in December, lies in wait for a semifinal matchup, but the Dragons first have to take care of Owen.
  • Lady Dragons' season ends vs. Simon Kenton
    DRY RIDGE – Simon Kenton showed why it was a top five team in the state Tuesday night, and ended South Oldham's season in the process. The Litkenhous rated No. 5 Lady Pioneers beat the Lady Dragons 63-40, eliminating South in the first round of the Region 8 tournament. Simon guard Abby Owings scored a game-high 25 points for the Lady Pioneers. They also out-rebounded the Lady Dragons 30-23.
  • South girls finish 12th at state swimming
    LOUISVILLE – South Oldham combined for 36 points at the state championships this weekend at the Ralph Wright Natatorium, with 32 of those points coming from the girls team. Lydia Jackson led the Lady Dragons with a fourth place finish in the 500-free. She swam the event in 5:07.15. Jackson finished 10th in the 200-free with a 1:55.38. Julia Roy finished ninth in the 100-fly with a time of 56.89 seconds. Roy finished 16th in the 200-IM in 2:14.81.  
  • Region 8 girls games for March 3 postponed
    Winter weather that carved up county schools’ regular season basketball schedules is now affecting the postseason. The Region 8 girls tournament that was set to begin tonight at Grant County has been postponed to Tuesday. That includes South Oldham’s game against Simon Kenton, which will now be played at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. That means Oldham County’s game against Henry County, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, will be instead be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Region 8 boys: OC draws Henry, South draws Owen
    District 29 champion Oldham County drew Henry County in the first round of next week’s Region 8 boys tournament, while South Oldham has drawn Owen County as its first round opponent. South will meet Owen at 8 p.m. Wednesday at host site Henry County. OC will play Henry at 8 p.m. Thursday.
  • Region 8 girls: OC draws Henry, South draws Simon
    Oldham County and South Oldham will have tough roads in the Region 8 tournament. OC, which beat South 50-43 in the District 29 title game Friday night in Goshen, plays Henry County the first round, but has Litkenhous-rated No. 2 Anderson County waiting in the second round. South meanwhile plays its first game against No. 5 Simon Kenton. South and Simon Kenton meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Grant County, while OC and Henry County meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Boys District Notebook: OC vs. South scenario could repeat
    GOSHEN – Oldham County celebrated its third straight district title over South Oldham at this time last season. The Colonels were going into the Region 8 tournament as a favorite to get back to the Boys Sweet 16 for the third straight year. But they met South again in the Region 8 title game and in that meeting the Dragons came out on top, advancing to state for the first time with a 58-48 win.
