  • Swimming: North wins combined Shelby meet
    North Oldham tallied 680 points to take a six-team swim meet Tuesday night in Shelbyville. South Oldham won the boys meet with 284 points. Next came runner-up North (276), third-place Collins (238) and fourth-place Oldham County (157). North tallied 404 points to take the girls meet. Following the Lady Mustangs were South (217), Collins (188) and OC (175). Shelby County and Spencer County also competed at the meet. County champions included:
  • Winter Sports Preview – Wrestling: OC returns deep roster
    North Oldham North Oldham must replace one of its best wrestlers in school history, Mitch Rusch. Rusch finished third last season in the 160-pound class at the KHSAA state wrestling championships in Lexington. He graduated in June and is now wrestling at St. Catharine College. “That’s definitely a big loss,” coach Tony Zeppa said. “He’d been with the program for six years… and was a six-time state qualifier.

  • Winter Sports Preview – Girls Basketball: District 29 race wide open
    There’s no overwhelming favorite among District 29’s four girls basketball teams this year. North Oldham hasn’t previously factored into the race but has built around a veteran core. Oldham County, defending district champ, returns three starters but must replace Ashley McMurtrey, the second leading scorer in program history. South Oldham, after not winning the district last year for the first time since 2007-08 has rebooted the program with new coach Jessica Conner.
  • Winter Sports Preview – Boys Basketball: Colonels are team to beat
    Oldham County has a deep, talented, veteran roster and the expectations that come along with that. OC was picked as the top team in Region 8 in this year’s edition of the annual Cats Pause region preview. The Colonels, led by senior guards Hayden Hawes and Connor Hicks, lead an OC team that won the District 29 Tournament last season but bowed out to Simon Kenton in the Region 8 Tournament. Two-time defending region champ South Oldham was picked seventh after having to replace almost all of its varsity roster.

    North Oldham North Oldham coach Randy Scherer brings back talent on both the boys and girls side of his roster. “It’s real exciting,” Scherer said. “Some of these kids I’ve been coaching now for six years, so for me this’ll be a real special season.” The boys side will be built around the senior trio of Luc Brazeau, Yoni Smolyar and the coach’s son, Mark Scherer.
