  • Region XC meets to be run Saturday
    Boys and girls cross-country teams from all three schools will run their respective region meets on Saturday. North Oldham’s boys will run the Class 2-A, Region 3 meet at 11:30 a.m. in Shelbyville at Collins. The Mustangs will be without top runner Trenton Fryman, who will sit out this meet to rest for the state meet Nov. 8, coach David St. Louis said. David Terkula, Alex McClarty and the rest of the North team is still expected to win.
  • Region 8 boys soccer: South beats North for championship
    SHELBYVILLE – The first two times No. 12 North Oldham and No. 8 South Oldham met this season, close games and tough play fueled the rivalry between the two squads. Meeting for the third time last Thursday at Collins with the Region 8 title on the line, the play was still rough but not as close as South Oldham came out with a 2-0 victory, punching a ticket to the state tournament.
  • Region 8 boys soccer: Stage set for North, South championship clash
    SHELBYVILLE – It was destined to happen. Less than a week after playing a heart-stopping district title game that South Oldham won 2-1, the No. 8 Dragons (11-6-3) will meet No. 12 North Oldham (9-7-3) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Collins for the Region 8 title for the second straight year. North and South clinched their spots in the championship game with semifinal wins Tuesday over Shelby County and Collins, respectively.
  • State boys soccer: Dragons move on to quarters
    GOSHEN – South Oldham’s first state tournament test Tuesday was an aggressive, undefeated Fern Creek team. The Dragons handled that test to advance to the state quarterfinals for just the second time in school history. Junior Chris Martin scored two goals and teammate Jonas Prenn tallied the other as No. 5 South beat No. 15 Fern Creek 3-1 in a first round match at North Oldham. The Dragons (14-6-3) advanced to the round of eight for the first time since 2009.
  • State girls soccer: Four Lady Dragons score in comeback win
    GOSHEN – South Oldham mounted a complete team effort to overcome a halftime deficit and continue its season Monday night. Sarah Ashy, Stephanie Rowland, Kailey Oliveros and Erika Laws all scored as the the Lady Dragons beat Mercy 4-2 in a state tournament first round match played at North Oldham. No. 8 South (20-4) scored three of those goals in the final 30 minutes after trailing 2-1 at halftime.
  • State soccer: South teams learn first-round opponents
    South Oldham’s boys and girls soccer teams figured out on Saturday night who they’ll be playing this week in the first round of their respective state tournaments. The No. 8 Lady Dragons will take on Mercy at 7 p.m. Monday at North Oldham. The Jaguars beat Bullitt East 3-0 on Saturday night in the Region 6 final. South (19-4) clinched a spot in the state tournament with a 3-1 win against Anderson County on Thursday in the Region 8 championship. The Lady Dragons didn’t meet Mercy (14-11-1, Maher Rankings No. 31) in the regular season.
  • Region 8 girls soccer: Rowland nets three, South wins region
    VERONA – South Oldham enjoyed four relatively stress-free matches to begin its postseason. Stephanie Rowland and the Lady Dragon defense allowed South to enjoy a fifth Thursday night. Rowland scored three first-half goals and the No. 8 Lady Dragons beat Anderson County 3-1 at Walton-Verona in the championship game of the Region 8 Tournament. South (19-4), whose 395 wins are the most among all Kentucky high school teams, will go back to the state tournament for the first time since 2009.
  • Region 8 girls soccer: South advances to final
    Stephanie Rowland scored two goals Tuesday and L.J. Wrightington scored the other as the Lady Dragons beat Simon Kenton 3-0 in a Region 8 girls soccer semifinal at Walton-Verona. With the win, South (18-4) advances to the region title match. It’ll face Anderson County (13-10-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Walton-Verona for the championship. The Lady Dragons will be looking for their first region title since 2009. Rowland’s two goals Tuesday give her 107 for her career.
  • District 29 volleyball: North, OC win openers
    North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC. No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader. No. 2 seed OC swept South 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) in the second match. The Lady Mustangs and Lady Colonels will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Buckner in the district title match.
  • Region 8 girls soccer: Lady Dragons roll past Henry
    GOSHEN – Facing one of the state’s toughest schedules, No. 8 South Oldham rarely gets the chance for a breather. The Lady Dragons got that chance Monday and overwhelmed Henry County by a score of 9-0 in a Region 8 Tournament quarterfinal at North Oldham. Senior Stephanie Rowland scored a team-high four goals for South (17-4), which will meet Simon Kenton (8-10-1) in a semifinal match at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walton-Verona.
