  • Boys Basketball: Colonels cream Collins

BUCKNER – Oldham County made a statement in Region 8 on Tuesday night.

The Colonels dominated visiting Collins 68-43 in a battle of two of the top three-rated teams in the region.

Juniors Jacob Bates and Brandon Johnson scored 15 points each as OC, No. 1 in the region per the latest Litkenhous ratings, controlled the game from the start.

The Colonels (15-4) became the first region opponent to beat the Titans (12-6) this season.

  • Boys Basketball: Mustangs out-play Colonels in district upset

GOSHEN – According to both its coach and star player, North Oldham had yet to play a full game this season heading into its showdown Friday night against then-No. 11 Oldham County.

“We always said if we put four quarters together we can beat anybody and we’ll be tough to beat,” Mustang senior guard Jon Jon Henry said.

“We’ll usually have one, maybe two (good quarters) per game,” North coach Rob Burton said. “But we’ve never been able to put four quarters together defensively or offensively.”

  • Girls Basketball: OC beats North for first district win

GOSHEN – Missed shots plagued Oldham County in its first two district games, both losses.

The Lady Colonels shot 26 percent in a 47-34 loss at Trimble County last month and 31 percent Jan. 9 in a 48-39 loss to South Oldham.

Staring at a 0-3 District 29 record, OC finally scored some points Friday and picked up a district win.

Senior center Abigail Stewart led the way with 18 points as the Lady Colonels won 59-32 at North Oldham.

  • Rita’s number retired

OC fans chanted “Rita, Rita” as her banner was unveiled between the OC vs. South Oldham girls and boys games.

Berry played shooting guard for legendary OC coach Dave Weedman from 1977-80.

She was the top-rated player in Region 8 during her time with the Lady Colonels.

  • Girls Basketball: Lady Colonels take over in second half, beat Cougars

BUCKNER – Defensively to offensively, Oldham County clicked in the second half Monday night.

The Lady Colonels outscored Holy Cross (Louisville) 36-16 over the final 16 minutes and left with a 52-42 home win.

OC (8-10) made shots, which allowed it to set its pressure defense. That led to Cougar turnovers and more easy Lady Colonel shots.

OC forced Holy Cross (11-7) into 22 turnovers, most of which came in the second half.

  • Boys Basketball: OC pulls away from out-manned South

BUCKNER – The Litkenhous-rated No. 12 team in the state took awhile to get rolling in a rivalry game Friday night.

But Oldham County’s depth and talent eventually took over against a South Oldham team missing two of its top players, and the Colonels rolled to a 29-point win.

Senior point guard Hayden Hawes scored a game-high 20 points in leading No. 12 OC to a 70-41 home win over a thin South squad.

  • Girls Basketball: South recovers from early struggles, beats OC

BUCKNER – South Oldham got off to its worst possible offensive start on the road Friday at Oldham County.

The Lady Dragons didn’t score a single point in the first quarter, trailing 13-0 after the opening eight minutes. But South eventually got on track and proceeded to dominate the rest of the game.

Sophomore guard Sydney Herold came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points and South won 48-39.

The Lady Dragons (7-6, 1-0 District 29) outscored OC (7-9, 0-2) 48-26 over the final 24 minutes Friday and have now won three of four games.
