North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC.

No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader.

  • Football: OC beats Eastern for second win

Oldham County quarterback James Harding threw two touchdowns to Allan Farrow and the Colonel defense didn’t allow an Eastern offensive touchdown as OC beat the Eagles 13-7 on Friday in Louisville.

The win was the first for the Colonels (2-6, 1-1) in Class 6-A, District 5 play since a 37-6 win at Fern Creek on Oct. 5, 2012.

Friday’s game was a defensive battle, with OC holding a 195-186 edge in total yards.

  • Friday football primer: South hosts Scott in important district game

    Scott at South Oldham, 7:30

South Oldham put itself behind the proverbial 8-ball by losing its Class 5-A, District 5 opener on Sept. 26 to Conner.

But the Dragons (5-2, 2-1) played themselves back into the mix for a district crown with a 21-9 road win Oct. 3 at Grant County and 27-21 home victory last week over Cooper.

South will close its district slate when it hosts Scott (5-1, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. in Crestwood.

  • District 29 boys soccer: Mustangs end Colonels’ season with 6-0 win

CRESTWOOD – The circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s District 29 semifinal between North Oldham and Oldham County looked familiar.

North goalie Alex Foote was handed a red card during the first half of the teams’ regular season meeting on Sept. 9 in Buckner. Playing with a one-man advantage, OC controlled the rest of the game and beat the Mustangs 3-2.

  • District 29 girls soccer: Rowland scores 100th, South eliminates OC

CRESTWOOD – Stephanie Rowland reached a milestone while helping keep her team’s season alive on Wednesday night.

Rowland assisted one goal and scored another as South Oldham beat Oldham County 2-0 in a District 29 semifinal match in the rain at Dragon Stadium.

Rowland’s goal was her 100th at South. She didn’t have much reaction to the milestone, saying, “I play forward, so I guess I’m supposed to score.”

  • Soccer: District 29 Tournament rescheduled

Rain showers that hit Oldham County on Monday and Tuesday mornings have forced the District 29 soccer tournament to be rescheduled.

The tournament, which was scheduled to start on Monday night at Oldham County, will now begin Wednesday night.

South Oldham and Oldham County's girls soccer teams will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at OC in the first semifinal. North Oldham and OC's boys teams will play their semifinal match after that.

  • Soccer: District semifinals postponed

The District 29 soccer semifinals scheduled to be played Monday night at Oldham County have been postponed due to subpar field conditions.

OC was scheduled to host South Oldham in the girls semifinal at 6 p.m., with the boys semifinal between North Oldham and OC to follow.

The district finals were scheduled to be played Wednesday night, with the winner of the girls semifinal playing North at 6 and the winner of the boys semifinal playing South at 8.

  • Football: Colonels shut out by Fern Creek

Oldham County managed just 42 yards of total offense on Friday night and fell 27-0 in its district opener at Fern Creek.

The Colonels (1-6, 0-1 Class 6-A, District 5) have now lost two straight games after beating North Bullitt 55-54 on Sept. 19 for their first win of the season.

The Tigers (4-2, 1-0) held OC to -24 rushing yards on the night.

Colonel quarterback James Harding was 4-of-15 passing for 66 yards with three interceptions. He had eight rushing attempts for -57 yards with a lost fumble.

  • Cross-country: Cole Dowdy, Searcy claim county titles

BUCKNER – The Oldham County championships Wednesday went to prove just how even cross-country competition is in the county this season.

Host Oldham County won the girls championship after the Lady Colonels got the advantage over North Oldham and South Oldham thanks to a tiebreaker.

South Oldham won the boys title over North Oldham, placing four runners in the top five.

South swept the individual titles, with sophomore Hallie Searcy winning the girls 5K and junior Cole Dowdy winning the boys championship.

  • Volleyball: Lady Colonel cousins

Danielle McCarson and Kelsey Miller spent plenty of time together growing up but were never on the same volleyball team until Miller came to Oldham County High School three years ago.

McCarson, a sophomore at the time, remembers it being weird at first that Miller, her first cousin, was now a teammate.

“Then we started playing with each other,” McCarson said, “and it clicked so well.”
