Oldham County High School

  • Male buzzer-beater sinks North

GOSHEN – Four and six-tenths seconds was all Brandon Horne needed to drive a stake through North Oldham’s comeback chances Wednesday night.

The Male guard took an inbounds pass at three-quarters court and drove straight to the basket, hitting the winning layup as time expired in a 46-44 Bulldog win at North.

Horne’s buzzer-beater undid an otherwise solid Mustang second-half effort. North (0-2), which scored just 14 first-half points, out-paced Male 30-22 over the final 16 minutes.

  • Bad weather causes game postponements

Inclement weather has affected the county high school sports schedule.

Several games were postponed over the last week as a result of a winter storm that rolled into town last Friday.

North Oldham’s boys basketball home game vs. Fern Creek was postponed from Dec. 6 to Jan. 25.

Oldham County’s girls basketball home game vs. Bullitt Central was postponed from Dec. 6 to Dec. 23.

  • OC rallies past Anderson, moves to 3-0

BUCKNER – Oldham County is making a habit of coming from behind to win.

The Colonels trailed Harrison County and DeSales by more than 10 points in the first half of those respective games before battling back for victories.

Tuesday OC was right back in familiar territory, trailing Region 8 foe Anderson County 31-17 midway through the second quarter. Once again the Colonels regained their composure and struck back, this time using a big third quarter in a 79-71 win.

  • All games for Friday, Dec. 6 called off

An impending winter storm has caused the cancellation of the county's high school basketball games.

South Oldham's girls home game vs. Fern Creek has been called off and a remake date has yet to be announced.

North Oldham's boys home game, also against Fern Creek, has been called off. A remake date has also yet to be announced.

North's girls game at Gallatin County has been postponed and will be played Feb. 15.

Oldham County's girls home game vs. Bullitt Central has been postponed to Dec. 23.

  • No. 4 Manual too much for OC girls

BUCKNER – Manual kept bringing in the reinforcements Tuesday and Oldham County didn't have the horses to keep up.

Eleven different Lady Crimsons scored as No. 4 Manual beat OC 79-48 in each team's season opener.

The Lady Crimsons' depth wore down the Lady Colonels as the game went on, OC coach Jace Bryant said.

“When you can play 15-deep,” Bryant said, “and you can bring in athlete, athlete, athlete and we're going seven-deep, it's tough.”

  • Bullitt East handles North in Mustangs’ opener

The 2013-14 North Oldham boys basketball season got off to a disappointing start for the Mustangs.

Bullitt East beat North 66-53 Monday night in Mt. Washington in a season opener that wasn’t as close as the score would indicate, Mustangs coach Chris Stobaugh said.

  • OC wins OT thriller

BUCKNER – One of Coy Zerhusen’s first decisions as Oldham County head coach has been to make Hayden Hawes his point guard and move former point guard Connor Hicks to the wing.

Zerhusen made the move with hopes Hicks would be able to do more scoring without having to run the offense. After one game, that move is looking like the right one.

  • OC girls start year with No. 4 Manual

A lot of teams across the state are starting their seasons next week with “warm-up” games in order to get a stress-free win or two under their belts.

Oldham County’s girls won’t be one of those teams.

The Lady Colonels will host preseason No. 4 DuPont Manual at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Buckner. OC will be facing a Lady Crimson team that’s won Region 7, one of the state’s toughest regions, three straight years.

Manual was state runner-up in 2010-11, state champ in 2011-12 and a state semifinalist last season.

  • Richardson signs to row at U of L

GOSHEN – Hannah Richardson originally “wanted no part” of rowing.

However after her parents had her try rowing one summer, she’d found a new sport.

“I fell in love with the sport,” said Richardson, a senior at North Oldham High School.

Now she’ll get to pursue her passion on the next level. Richardson signed a letter intent to row next season for the University of Louisville Wednesday at a ceremony in North’s library.
