  • McKee, Anderson end Lady Colonels' season

    DRY RIDGE – A streaking Oldham County team ran into an opponent that was just a little too good Saturday afternoon.

    Eriel McKee scored 24 points and No. 2 Anderson County ended OC's season with a 62-42 defeat in the Region 8 semifinals at Grant County.

    The loss was the Lady Colonels' first in five games and just their third in their last 11 contests. OC (16-9) still hasn't made a region title game since 2001.

  • Colonels get past Henry in first round

    NEW CASTLE – In the first three quarterfinal games of the boys Region 8 tournament, the favorites struggled early but won in the end.

    District 29 champ Oldham County repeated that trend in the fourth and last quarterfinal of the tournament Friday night.

    OC trailed host Henry County well into the third quarter Friday before pulling away and winning 72-59 at the Roy. L. Winchester Gymnasium. The Colonels advanced to the region semifinals, where they'll meet Simon Kenton at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

  • Lady Colonels roll Henry, set up Anderson showdown

    DRY RIDGE – Three days before the Lady Colonels take on the state's No. 2 team, Oldham County showed Wednesday why it thinks it can win that game.

    OC overwhelmed Henry County 63-32 Wednesday in the first round of the girls Region 8 tournament at Grant County. The win set up a semifinal showdown with No. 2 Anderson County, scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at Grant.

  • OC opens region at Henry

    Oldham County’s reward for an impressive District 29 championship run is a road game to open the Region 8 tournament.

    The Colonels will meet tournament host Henry County at 8 p.m. Friday in the last game of the region tournament’s first round.

    Meeting Henry on the road shouldn’t faze OC (22-6), coach Coy Zerhusen said. The Colonels are 5-3 on the road this season, including a 66-48 win at North Oldham Feb. 27 in the first round of the district tournament.

  • OC sweeps Spring Thaw Relays

    Oldham County’s boys and girls track and field teams got off to a winning start Saturday, sweeping the Spring Thaw Relays in Buckner.

    The OC girls won the 4x400 meter relay finals with a time of 4:20.20.

    The Colonel boys won the 4x400 meter relay finals with a time of 3:36.10.

    OC won the boys 4x800 meter relay finals with a time of 8:41.00

  • Oldham girls finish 10th at state swimming

    Oldham County’s girls put together a solid weekend, finishing 10th with a team score of 75 points at the KHSAA state swimming championships at the University of Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium.

    The Lady Colonels’ best performance came in the 100-butterfly, where Olivia Hoskins finished fourth with a time of 56.48 seconds and Emma Skinner came in seventh with a 57.50 time.

    Hoskins was also 10th in the 200-IM with a time of 2:08.03. Skinner finished 12th in the 100-back with a time of 58.44 seconds.

  • Region 8 girls games for March 3 postponed

    Winter weather that carved up county schools’ regular season basketball schedules is now affecting the postseason.

    The Region 8 girls tournament that was set to begin tonight at Grant County has been postponed to Tuesday. That includes South Oldham’s game against Simon Kenton, which will now be played at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    That means Oldham County’s game against Henry County, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, will be instead be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

  • Region 8 boys: OC draws Henry, South draws Owen

    District 29 champion Oldham County drew Henry County in the first round of next week’s Region 8 boys tournament, while South Oldham has drawn Owen County as its first round opponent.

    South will meet Owen at 8 p.m. Wednesday at host site Henry County. OC will play Henry at 8 p.m. Thursday.

  • Region 8 girls: OC draws Henry, South draws Simon

    Oldham County and South Oldham will have tough roads in the Region 8 tournament.

    OC, which beat South 50-43 in the District 29 title game Friday night in Goshen, plays Henry County the first round, but has Litkenhous-rated No. 2 Anderson County waiting in the second round.

    South meanwhile plays its first game against No. 5 Simon Kenton.

    South and Simon Kenton meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Grant County, while OC and Henry County meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

  • Boys District Notebook: OC vs. South scenario could repeat

    GOSHEN – Oldham County celebrated its third straight district title over South Oldham at this time last season. The Colonels were going into the Region 8 tournament as a favorite to get back to the Boys Sweet 16 for the third straight year.

    But they met South again in the Region 8 title game and in that meeting the Dragons came out on top, advancing to state for the first time with a 58-48 win.
