North Oldham

  • North Oldham hosts C. Hardin tonight in state tourney

GOSHEN – Another new chapter can be written in a historic North Oldham boys soccer season tonight.

The Region 8 champion Mustangs (19-4-1) will host Region 5 champion Central Hardin (21-1-2) tonight in the first round of the KHSAA state soccer tournament.

The game will be the first state game in history North's history and comes four days after the Mustangs beat South Oldham 1-0 to win the school's first District 29 title. Beating the Bruins would add to a season that's already seen the North set records for wins in a season.

  • Region 8 volleyball bracket drawn

Both North Oldham and Oldham County volleyball found out their roads Saturday to a potential fourth meeting in this week's Region 8 championship.

The District 29 champion Lady Mustangs (24-9) will meet Collins (18-9) at 6:45 Monday night at Simon Kenton High School in Independence in the first round of the Region 8 tournament. District 29 runner-up OC (28-8) will open its region tournament against Shelby County (10-10) at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Simon Kenton.

  • North football sees district chances slip away in loss at Collins

SHELBYVILLE – If it could've gone wrong for North Oldham football Friday night, it did.

That's how Mustang coach Billy Martin diagnosed North's 35-6 loss at Titan Stadium, a defeat that cost the Mustangs a chance to win Class 4A, District 3 outright.

North (6-3, 3-1 district) instead finishes second in the district behind Collins (7-2, 4-0) and must go on the road if it makes the second round of the playoffs.

  • Vicich earns Region 8 tourney MVP

SHELBYVILLE – Most of what Jad Vicich does for North Oldham's boys soccer team doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

“He's only got, I think, two goals and two assists on the season,” North coach Chad Niedert said.

That number is actually two goals and one assist, according to the team page on the KHSAA website. But what Vicich does is make life miserable for opposing offenses from his spot as a defensive midfielder.

  • North boys hold on to beat South, win region

SHELBYVILLE – North Oldham boys soccer was in a familiar position at halftime Thursday night.

Just eight days before, North had led South 1-0 at halftime of the District 29 final. The Dragons roared back with three second half goals to win 3-1.

The Mustangs were again up 1-0 Thursday in the championship game of the Region 8 tournament at Collins High School. Only this time, things ended differently than before.

  • North, South boys meet for fourth time tonight

South Oldham was in a similar situation one year ago at this time.

The Dragons had split their two regular season matchups with Oldham County and beaten the Colonels in the District 29 title. The teams met a fourth time in the Region 8 championship game, and South beat OC 2-0.

This season South split two regular season games with North Oldham and beat the Mustangs 3-1 in last week's District 29 final. Now the Dragons will play North a fourth time, with everything on the line.

  • North Boys Golf Finishes 7th at State Tournament

BOWLING GREEN – North Oldham boys golf didn’t meet its goal of a top five finish at this week’s state tournament. But, in the end, the Mustangs still finished better than two-thirds of the other squads at the Bowling Green Country Club.

North finished with a cumulative team score of +65, good enough for a seventh place finish in the 24-team event. The Mustangs shot 319 the first day and 322 the second day, finishing with a total score of 641.

  • North boys soccer finishing strong

  • South facing defending 5A runner-up Friday

South Oldham has a chance to create a good position for itself in the Class 5A District 5 race Friday.

The Dragons (4-3, 2-0 District 5) will head north to Cooper (2-5, 0-2), attempting to keep an unblemished district record alive.

But in order to leave Union with a 3-0 district record, South will have to take down an opponent it’s struggled against.

“We’ve never beat Cooper,” coach Jamie Reed said. “We’ll need a good week of practice from everyone because it’ll be a tough game.”

  • NOHS Boys Golfers Make the Cut

BOWLING GREEN – North Oldham fought tooth-and-nail with tough Region 6 competition to make the KHSAA state tournament.

Once the Mustangs got to Bowling Green they found themselves fighting more against the course than the competition.

North fought wind and a tough course to shoot a 319 Tuesday at the Bowling Green Country Club, allowing the Mustangs to make the 12-team cut and advance to Wednesday’s final round.
