  • Boys' Basketball: Williams takes over in Dragons' 59-44 win at North Oldham

     GOSHEN – When Grant Williams took the court at North Oldham, there was a look in his eyes which South Oldham coach Steve Simpson had seen only one other time this season.

    Thankfully, it was a good memory for South Oldham in a similar hostile environment and what the coach saw was a senior in the zone on a mission to seal a deal that loomed for weeks.

  • Wrestling: Oldham County wins first state duals title, North finishes second in small school

    Oldham County won its first ever state duals championship Saturday at the large school state event at Ryle High School.

    The Colonels defeated Woodford County in the final 48-25, the same team OC defeated to claim a sixth straight sectional dual title.

    On its way to a state title, OC defeated St. Xavier 40-20 and Simon Kenton 51-21 in pool play. The Colonels handled Meade County in the semifinals 46-12.

    BUCKNER – Oldham County is looking for ways to maintain consistency. The Colonels hope they have found that method in perhaps the simplest of terms. It goes back to the reason they even play the game of basketball: to have fun.

    Oldham County looked the part Friday night in a 72-50 victory over longtime rival Shelby County in a game the Colonels had control of from the opening tip.

  • Girls Basketball: Shelby County wears down Oldham County in 56-40 road win

    BUCKNER - Shelby County used its size advantage to wear down Oldham County Friday night in a 56-40 win in Buckner.

    The Lady Rockets, coached by former Oldham County boys coach Jason Holland, had three players reach double digits with Justus Martin scoring 16 points, Madison Todd scoring 15 and Zephey Gray adding 10.

    The Lady Colonels never could escape the consistent Shelby County press and form their own rhythm in their second loss after a seven game winning streak.

  • Girls' Basketball: Collins uses late surge to top South Oldham 52-46

    A quick scoring burst to open the fourth quarter gave the Collins High School girls’ basketball team the breathing room they needed as the Titans slid past South Oldham 52-46 Tuesday.

    With the score tied at 37 to open the final period, the Titans (12-8) took off on a 15-4 scoring run to put the Dragons away.

  • Dragons' win streak ends in 59-54 home loss to North Bullitt

    CRESTWOOD — South Oldham and North Bullitt entered Monday night’s contest as two teams near the top of the state in scoring. What transpired was a defensive battle that left the Dragons with an unfamiliar ending.

    South’s signature shooting hit a season low with a 25 percent mark from the 3-point line and North Bullitt hit late free throws to defeat the Dragons 59-54 Monday night in Crestwood.

  • BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Oldham County drops home contest to Central Hardin 47-42

    Costly turnovers and a poor shooting night cost Oldham County in a 47-42 home loss to Central Hardin Tuesday night.

    The Colonels committed 26 turnovers and shot just 50 percent from the free throw line in their second loss in three games.

    Five Colonels scored with Ismail Jones leading with 15 points and Jacob Bates posting 10 points. Griffin McLarty added eight points, with six coming in the fourth quarter, and five rebounds while Brandon Johnson had seven.

  • Dowdy named 2015-16 Kentucky Boys Cross Country Gatorade Runner of the Year

     South Oldham senior Cole Dowdy has added another award to his stellar year in cross country.

    Dowdy has been named the 2015-16 Kentucky Boys Cross Country Gatorade Runner of the Year, an award honoring the nation’s best high school athletes by The Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports.

    The Gatorade Company announced the award for Dowdy Friday morning, which qualifies him as a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year award announced later this month.

  • Boys Basketball: Oldham County grinds out 46-44 region win at Collins

    SHELBYVILLE – Oldham County coach Coy Zerhusen understands particular circumstances this week played a part in a lackluster performance Thursday night at Collins, but he’s glad to find teaching moments from a win rather than a loss.

    Senior Brandon Johnson came through in the clutch in the final second with the game-winning layup as Oldham County topped Collins 46-44.
