  • Girls District 29: Focused South cruises past North for title

GOSHEN – Nearly three weeks ago, with the regular season district title on the line, North Oldham went into Dragon Stadium, out-played South Oldham and left with an upset victory.

That 1-0 home loss on Sept. 29 served as a wakeup call for the Lady Dragons, according to senior L.J. Wrightington.

“It’s like a mind-check to realize that you’re not always going to win everything,” Wrightington said. “You’re not just going to have everything handed to you.”

CRESTWOOD – The circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s District 29 semifinal between North Oldham and Oldham County looked familiar.

North goalie Alex Foote was handed a red card during the first half of the teams’ regular season meeting on Sept. 9 in Buckner. Playing with a one-man advantage, OC controlled the rest of the game and beat the Mustangs 3-2.

  • Boys golf: Maier finishes sixth at state tourney

Josh Maier saved some of his best golf for his final high school tournament last weekend.

The North Oldham senior fired a 68 in the first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Tournament on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, sitting alone in first place after the round.

Maier was unable to replicate that magic Saturday afternoon, shooting a second-round 77 to finish with a 145 (+1).

That put him in a tie with Lyon County freshman Cullan Brown for sixth place at Bowling Green Country Club.

  • North athletes raise money for cancer

The North Oldham girls and boys soccer teams sold pink t-shirts raising $1,005 for the American Cancer Society.

They wore their “pink out” uniforms last week to celebrate those families who have fought through or are fighting breast cancer.

“Last year one of the boys on the soccer team lost his mother due to cancer and so this is a cause near and dear to this team,” athletic director Alan Yanke said in an official release.
