  • Region 8 volleyball: Tournament bracket set

    North Oldham and Oldham County on Saturday learned their paths to a fourth meeting, as the Region 8 Tournament bracket was drawn.

    No. 12 North (23-3), the District 29 champion, will start its tournament at 6 p.m. Monday at Carroll County against Henry County.

    No. 8 OC (32-5), district runner-up, will open one night later against Carroll, the tournament host.

    Should North beat Henry, it’ll face Simon Kenton or Anderson County on Wednesday in the region semifinals.

  • Football: Mustangs blank Collins for first win in series history

    GOSHEN – North Oldham didn’t just brush what coach Billy Martin called “King Kong” off its back Friday night.

    North wrestled the gorilla to the ground, punched it repeatedly and then kicked it through the Mustang Stadium goalposts.

    The Mustangs beat district enemy Collins on Friday for the first time in program history by a score of 43-0.

    North out-gained the Titans 324-31, forced a running clock in the third quarter and denied them a fourth straight Class 4-A, District 3 title.

  • Region 8 boys soccer: South beats North for championship

    SHELBYVILLE – The first two times No. 12 North Oldham and No. 8 South Oldham met this season, close games and tough play fueled the rivalry between the two squads.

    Meeting for the third time last Thursday at Collins with the Region 8 title on the line, the play was still rough but not as close as South Oldham came out with a 2-0 victory, punching a ticket to the state tournament.

  • Football: North, OC host key district matchups

    Two county football games Friday will carry heavy implications for playoff seeding.

    Oldham County (2-6, 1-1) will host Ballard (5-3, 2-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Bell Field with the chance to win Class 6-A, District 5 in coach Mike Shatzer’s first year.

    North Oldham (5-2, 2-1) will host Collins (4-4, 3-0) at the same time at Mustang Stadium. A Mustang win could give them the chance at their first Class 4-A, District 3 title.

  • District 29 volleyball: Lady Mustangs beat OC for third time

     BUCKNER – North Oldham and Oldham County have played three times this season and will likely play a fourth time next week with a Region 8 title at stake.

    If that match goes like the first three, the Lady Mustangs will be the ones dog-piling and holding up a trophy at the end.

    No. 12 North beat No. 8 OC 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19) on Wednesday night at OC for the District 29 championship.

  • Region 8 boys soccer: Stage set for North, South championship clash

    SHELBYVILLE – It was destined to happen.

    Less than a week after playing a heart-stopping district title game that South Oldham won 2-1, the No. 8 Dragons (11-6-3) will meet No. 12 North Oldham (9-7-3) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Collins for the Region 8 title for the second straight year.

    North and South clinched their spots in the championship game with semifinal wins Tuesday over Shelby County and Collins, respectively.

  • District 29 volleyball: North, OC win openers

    North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC.

    No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader.

    No. 2 seed OC swept South 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) in the second match.

    The Lady Mustangs and Lady Colonels will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Buckner in the district title match.

  • Region 8 girls soccer: Anderson wins shootout, ends North's season

    GOSHEN – North Oldham has found itself on both sides of penalty shootouts this season.

    The Lady Mustangs fell in a shootout to Christian Academy-Louisville on Sept. 20 in the Bulldog Cup, only to come back five days later and beat rival Oldham County in a PK shootout.

    North ended up in a third shootout Monday but this time it came out on the losing end.

    Anderson County hit all five of its penalty kicks to win a shootout 5-3 and a Region 8 quarterfinal match 2-1. The loss ended the season for the Lady Mustangs (11-6-2).

  • Boys District 29 soccer: South beats North in epic penalty shootout

    GOSHEN – South Oldham vs. North Oldham, Chapter Two of (a Likely) Three, had everything you could want in a game Saturday afternoon.

    There was quality defense, an underdog taking an early lead, a favorite battling back – while down a man – to tie, some controversy and, finally, a 12-round penalty kick shootout.
