  • District 29 volleyball: Lady Mustangs beat OC for third time

     BUCKNER – North Oldham and Oldham County have played three times this season and will likely play a fourth time next week with a Region 8 title at stake.

    If that match goes like the first three, the Lady Mustangs will be the ones dog-piling and holding up a trophy at the end.

    No. 12 North beat No. 8 OC 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19) on Wednesday night at OC for the District 29 championship.

  • Region 8 boys soccer: Stage set for North, South championship clash

    SHELBYVILLE – It was destined to happen.

    Less than a week after playing a heart-stopping district title game that South Oldham won 2-1, the No. 8 Dragons (11-6-3) will meet No. 12 North Oldham (9-7-3) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Collins for the Region 8 title for the second straight year.

    North and South clinched their spots in the championship game with semifinal wins Tuesday over Shelby County and Collins, respectively.

  • District 29 volleyball: North, OC win openers

    North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC.

    No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader.

    No. 2 seed OC swept South 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) in the second match.

    The Lady Mustangs and Lady Colonels will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Buckner in the district title match.

  • Region 8 girls soccer: Anderson wins shootout, ends North's season

    GOSHEN – North Oldham has found itself on both sides of penalty shootouts this season.

    The Lady Mustangs fell in a shootout to Christian Academy-Louisville on Sept. 20 in the Bulldog Cup, only to come back five days later and beat rival Oldham County in a PK shootout.

    North ended up in a third shootout Monday but this time it came out on the losing end.

    Anderson County hit all five of its penalty kicks to win a shootout 5-3 and a Region 8 quarterfinal match 2-1. The loss ended the season for the Lady Mustangs (11-6-2).

  • Boys District 29 soccer: South beats North in epic penalty shootout

    GOSHEN – South Oldham vs. North Oldham, Chapter Two of (a Likely) Three, had everything you could want in a game Saturday afternoon.

    There was quality defense, an underdog taking an early lead, a favorite battling back – while down a man – to tie, some controversy and, finally, a 12-round penalty kick shootout.

  • Girls District 29: Focused South cruises past North for title

    GOSHEN – Nearly three weeks ago, with the regular season district title on the line, North Oldham went into Dragon Stadium, out-played South Oldham and left with an upset victory.

    That 1-0 home loss on Sept. 29 served as a wakeup call for the Lady Dragons, according to senior L.J. Wrightington.

    “It’s like a mind-check to realize that you’re not always going to win everything,” Wrightington said. “You’re not just going to have everything handed to you.”

  • Football: North runs over Atherton

    North Oldham piled up more than eight times the total yardage as Atherton did on Friday and left Louisville with a 49-0 win.

    The Mustangs (5-2, 2-1) have won two straight Class 4-A, District 3 games after dropping their district opener on Sept. 26 to Spencer County.

    Wingback Arien Beasley ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns as North held a 418-50 edge in total yards against the Rebels (2-7, 0-4).

    North wingback Chris Webb ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns and fullback Kevin Graham added 50 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

  • Friday football primer: South hosts Scott in important district game

    South Oldham put itself behind the proverbial 8-ball by losing its Class 5-A, District 5 opener on Sept. 26 to Conner.

    But the Dragons (5-2, 2-1) played themselves back into the mix for a district crown with a 21-9 road win Oct. 3 at Grant County and 27-21 home victory last week over Cooper.

    South will close its district slate when it hosts Scott (5-1, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. in Crestwood.

  • District 29 boys soccer: Mustangs end Colonels’ season with 6-0 win

    CRESTWOOD – The circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s District 29 semifinal between North Oldham and Oldham County looked familiar.

    North goalie Alex Foote was handed a red card during the first half of the teams’ regular season meeting on Sept. 9 in Buckner. Playing with a one-man advantage, OC controlled the rest of the game and beat the Mustangs 3-2.
