  • Greenwood, Norman share district player of year

    Two shortstops shared top billing among county baseball players this spring.

    Oldham County shortstop Austin Norman and South Oldham shortstop Drew Greenwood were named co-District 29 players of the year by the district’s coaches.

    Both will play college baseball close to home next year. Norman will play for Indiana University-Southeast while Greenwood will play at Bellarmine University.

    OC’s Norman, South’s Greenwood and Eddie Mathis and North Oldham’s Ethan Cleary and Andrew Pennybaker were all named to the All-Region 8 team.

  • Terry takes over North soccer

    North Oldham has turned to an administrator with nearly 20 years experience coaching soccer to lead the Mustangs.

    Associate principal Andrew Terry has been named boys soccer coach, athletic director Alan Yanke told The Era.

    Terry is taking over for Chad Niedert, who is leaving North to work in Cincinnati as an actuary. Niedert led the Mustangs to the state quarterfinals last fall in his only season as head coach.

  • District 29 softball: OC wins fourth straight title

    BEDFORD – Make it 4-for-4 for Oldham County under coach Steve Leanhart.

    Delaney Sowell was 3-for-3 with two doubles Thursday as the Lady Colonels beat North Oldham 6-3 to win their fourth straight District 29 title. OC has won the championship all four years under Leanhart.

    The Lady Colonels (21-11-1) will draw a district runner-up at the Region 8 tournament next week in Gallatin County, while North (15-16) will draw a district champion.

  • Region 8 softball: Anderson beats North softball

    WARSAW – Anderson County’s Bailey Curry and Kaci Currens each hit home runs off North Oldham pitcher Sam Maiocco Monday as the Lady Bearcats ended the Lady Mustangs’ season with a 7-2 win in the Region 8 tournament at Gallatin County.

    North finished its first season under coach Erick Anderson 15-17.

    North took a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore right fielder Hannah Phillips singled and then scored on an Anderson County error.

  • Region 8 baseball: Wiley one-hits North

    NEW CASTLE – Zach Wiley was hitting spots with his fastball, keeping hitters off-balance with a hard slider and letting a superb defense make plays behind him.

    Wiley pitched a one-hit shutout Monday night for his Collins Titans, who beat North Oldham 4-0 in the final first round game of the Region 8 tournament at Henry County.

    North’s lone hit was a fifth-inning Cameron Masterman single that broke up Wiley’s perfect game. The Bellarmine University signee had already thrown a no-hitter this spring against rival Shelby County.

  • Boys Class 2A Track and Field: Fryman leads the way as Mustangs run second

    LEXINGTON – North Oldham came close to pulling off a boys/girls Class 2A sweep Friday.

    The Mustang boys finished with 51 points in the state championships at the University of Kentucky, putting them in a second-place tie with Paducah Tilghman. Highlands finished as state champion with 56 points.

    North's runner-up finish came one year a 31st place, seven-point showing at the state level.

  • Girls Class 2A Track and Field: North wins first state title

    LEXINGTON – North Oldham sprinted, ran, threw, jumped and vaulted its way a true team championship Friday night.

    The Lady Mustangs totaled 90.5 points, beating second-place Lexington Catholic by 27.5 points to win the program's first Class 2A state track and field title at the University of Kentucky.

    Lexington Catholic was runner-up with 63 points, followed by Western Hills (59), Highlands (55) and Paducah Tilghman (46).

  • District 29 baseball: Dragons beat North for district title sweep

    GOSHEN – A half-inning after South Oldham gave away a two-run lead against North Oldham Wednesday, the Dragons came right back to take control and win a district title.

    South scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead on its way to a 7-4 win in the District 29 title game at North. The No. 1 seed Dragons (19-9) had already won the regular season district title and added a tournament crown to an impressive 2014 season.

  • North, South girls lax fall in state quarters

    The girls lacrosse season ended Saturday for both North Oldham and South Oldham.

    North, district champion, lost 12-10 in the state quarterfinals to Assumption. Madison Cobb scored three goals, with Baylee Willett and Sydney Willett each adding two.

    South fell 28-0 to Sacred Heart in the state quarters.

    North beat South 14-8 May 15 to win the district title. Baylee Willett scored eight goals that game. Teckla Danielson led the Lady Dragons with four.
