North Oldham

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that North Oldham High School alum Brandon Causey was honored at the Heritage Federal Credit Union Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast on Sept. 27 in UE’s Eykamp Hall. 

At the event, the University of Evansville was announced as the recipient of the 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award, given to the school whose student-athletes post the highest cumulative GPA.

Taking to the diamond over the Memorial Day weekend in the 8th Region softball and baseball tournaments, three local teams advanced to play another game.

In baseball, defending champ North Oldham opened things up in the early game with a 6-4 win over Simon Kenton, while South followed that up nine hours later with a win of their own, edging Walton-Verona 3-2.

With their wins, the Mustangs will move into the semifinals today at 6 p.m. against Henry County, while the Dragons will follow in an 8 p.m. tilt against Anderson County.

For most of the year, Oldham County’s three local high schools may not have much in common but on Saturday evening that certainly wasn’t the case. Taking to Owsley B. Frazier Park at the University of Louisville for the state track and field meets, an athlete from each school left their mark on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association record book with wins at the state track and field meet.

Baseball
Taking to South Oldham, the host team got thing started off in quick fashion Monday night, blitzing fourth seed Trimble County 10-0. After picking up two runs in the bottom of the third,  Dragons would turn up the heat an inning later, exploding for seven runs to put the game away. Drew Greenwood would lead the charge for South, going 2-for-2 in the win with two runs, a walk and two RBIs.
On the mound, Braden Johnson would go the distance, tossing just 61 pitches, 43 of those strikes, with only two hits surrendered.
