  • Oldham softball eases past South

    BUCKNER — For five innings, Oldham County High School junior pitcher Jessica Leanhart cruised through the South Oldham High School softball team’s lineup.

    The Lady Dragons mustered a late run, but posed little threat in a 9-1 win for the Lady Colonels Thursday night.
    Leanhart pitched five innings, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit.

  • Oldham junior working towards broadcasting career

    Basketball is more than just a game.

    For each of the Oldham County High School basketball team’s home games the past two seasons, one voice has helped energize those involved in the game and those watching it.

    OCHS junior Tyler Anderson is the team’s public address announcer, creator of highlight tapes and host of the school’s student-produced television newscast.

    An aspiring broadcaster, Anderson said he volunteered to take the public address duties as a way to stay connected to sports and gain experience in his career pursuit.

  • Two Oldham wrestlers selected to compete at two national tournaments

    Last month, they took down many of the top wrestlers in the state at the state tournament.

    Now, they’ll be looking to do the same at the national level.

    Oldham County High School junior Mikey Caudill and freshman John Shirkey were selected to participate in the National High School Coaches Association national championship March 28-30 in Virginia Beach, Va. They’ve also been selected to compete for the Team Kentucky wrestling team at the National Wrestling Coaches Association scholastic duals tournament April 12-14 in Crawfordsville, Ind.

  • Students take in the ride to Rupp

    Aside from a few scattered colors, an army of blue-clad students wait anxiously behind Oldham County High School.

    Five buses stand ready to transport the students to Rupp Arena in Lexington March 15 to watch the Colonels’ boys’ basketball team play Bowling Green in the first round of the state tournament.

    Students traveled to the game to cheer on their classmates, hang out with friends and even take advantage of being out of class. But by the end of the day, a few found more important reasons why they attended.

  • Softball team beats cancer with a bat

    A silent killer became outed more on March 10.

    According to the American Cancer Society, one in four deaths in the U.S. are caused by cancer.

    In an effort to bring more attention to the deadly disease, the Oldham County High School softball team held the second Beat Cancer With a Bat series Saturday.

    OCHS, Owen County and Carroll County each played two scrimmages in a three-scrimmage series, with concession and ticket sales benefitting the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

  • AUDIO: Oldham misses opportunities against Scott County

    LEXINGTON — Even as the deficit continued to mount, Coach Jason Holland saw opportunities.

    Unfortunately for the Oldham County High School boys' basketball team, the Colonels couldn't take advantage of any, losing to Scott County 56-43 Saturday in the KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

    While OCHS whittled down Scott County's 41-18 lead late in the third quarter, the Colonels had already missed what few windows they had open.

  • Colonels' run ends with loss in state semi-finals

    LEXINGTON — After hanging with its opponent for the first half, the Oldham County High School boys’ basketball team couldn’t handle the flood of points that came next.

    Scott County quickly expanded a slim halftime lead, going on a big run in the third quarter to defeat the Colonels 56-43 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

  • AUDIO: OCHS overcomes poor shooting for quarterfinal win

    LEXINGTON — The Oldham County High School boys' basketball team's go-to-player hadn't been himself.

    With four fouls, senior forward Tyler Wesley hadn't scored for the first 31 minutes of the Colonels' 36-34 win over Knott County Central on Friday in the state tournament quarterfinals at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

    But in trying to hold the ball for the final shot, OCHS Coach Jason Holland had no doubt who he planned on turning to for the Colonels' most important shot of the game.

  • OLDHAM IN STATE SEMI-FINALS

    LEXINGTON — For over 31 minutes, the Oldham County high school boys’ basketball team’s leading scorer didn’t score.

    But when his team needed him most, Colonels senior forward Tyler Wesley came through.

    Wesely gave OCHS the lead for good with 3.9 seconds left on a layup and free throw and the Colonels lucked out on missed Knott County Central free throws to come away with a 36-34 win in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Sweet 16.
