  • Groups reach agreement on Oldham...

    On Friday of this week, the Oldham-La Grange Development Authority and Talmage Hocker, president of The Hocker Group LLC, are expected to sign an agreement forming a partnership to develop the Oldham Reserve Business Campus. This will mark the first public/private partnership for both entities.

    Oldham Reserve is a 1,000-acre planned unit development located off of I-71 at exit 22 in La Grange. The campus will house a mixture of retail, office and residential uses.

    We read in Psalm 119:8, “I will observe your statutes.” I like the Psalmist’s clear communication of what he “will” do. It is forceful and committed. “I will observe God’s statutes.” Notice he does not write, “I will try to observe God’s statutes.” “Try” is one of those words that we should tune our ear to so that when we use it, we question our commitment.

    This letter is written to strongly urge the re-election of John Fendley as Oldham County Attorney. John has an excellent record and an outstanding reputation. He has the even-handed, no-nonsense approach to problem solving so necessary to correctly fill this position.

    I admire and respect John. He is a man of honor and integrity. He is worthy of our trust and well qualified to serve. It is important that we all vote but, moreover, we need to vote for the best candidate. I sincerely believe the best man for the job is John Fendley.

    Paula started serving this county in our schools as president of three PTAs.eeShe was then elected to fiscal court where she served the people of Goshen and Prospect for 11 years. Now, Paula is serving the entire county as deputy judge-executive.ee

    In the April 22 edition, The Oldham Era printed a big supplement entitled, “Best of Oldham County” which announced the winners of a local contest intended to identify reader favorites in a wide variety of categories.

     Dr. Robert McNeish wrote “Lessons from Geese” as part of a sermon in 1972. Since then it has been reprinted in many forms. I share these entertaining insights with Biblical thoughts to reflect upon. 

  • An Earley Merry Christmas

    The pastor took his customary place at the back of the church to greet the Easter crowd. As usual, the crowd had swelled to fill the sanctuary.

    The pastor saw a friend whom he knew came to church only Christmas and Easter, and said, “Hi John, I’d like to take this opportunity to say ‘Merry Christmas,’ since I probably won’t see you here again before that.”

    John muttered on the way home, “Won’t see me until Christmas! I’ll show him!”
