    The Oldham County Schools Arts Center  will host a  concert featuring the Harry Pickens Trio at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

    The concert will consist of Christmas favorites.

    Samantha Winters, 21, of La Grange will compete for the title of 2009 Miss Kentucky U.S.A. on Dec. 19 at the Lovett Auditorium at Murray State University. 

    Winters is the daughter of Mark and Jan Viehmann and Michael and Nancy Winters.

    Ross and Joyce Branscum of Eminence and the late Gary Stutzenberger announce the engagement of their daughter, Jamie Helen Stutzenberger to Kenneth Dwight Powell, son of Kenny and Patti Powell of La Grange.

    Wilson named Recruiter of the Year...

    Sgt. Adam T. Wilson was named Recruiter of the Year. He is a recruiter for the entire state of Kentucky and parts of Southern Indiana and Southern Ohio. 

    He works at the recruiting station in Louisville.

    Brenda Hounshell and the late Jimmie Hounshell of La Grange announce the engagement of their son, Dr. Troy Lee Hounshell to Shanon Mari Potts, daughter of Terry and Lori Emery of Columbus, Ohio and Jeff and Vicki Potts of Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • The Louisville Chorus performs...

    The Louisville Chorus will perform “Noel! Noel! Noel!” a holiday presentation at 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $8 for students.     After the death of King David in 961 BC, the nation of Israel struggled economically, militarily, politically and religiously. The people longed for the glory days to return. God set in their hearts the expectation of a Messiah, a leader who would again lead them to the glory of God. From the beginning of this expectation the people prayed for a great political Messiah, like David, to come and lead them.

    The Oldham County Schools Arts Center will present Artist in Residence Harry Pickens in a Christmas Trio Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20.  

    The evening of holiday music will showcase national jazz sensation Harry Pickens with Chris Fitzgerald and Jason Tiemann.

    Sneed completes marine corps basic...

    Private First Class Adam M. Sneed, son of Michael and Paula Sneed, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. 

    He will be stationed at Camp Geiger in North Carolina for four weeks of combat training. He will begin additional training at NAS Pensacola Florida in Aviation Mechanics.

    Ballardsville Baptist Church hosted the Oldham County Hymn Sing Nov. 11. Mrs. Boots Covington from Eminence Baptist Church gave a hearty welcome. There were 12 folks in attendance and 10 churches represented. 

  • Rejoice in the Lord

    As Thanksgiving approaches and I take time to count my blessings I am haunted with memories. I am haunted by the memory of so many stories of sexual impurity, drug and alcohol abuse and murder in schools and in the lives of teenagers. I am haunted by the brokenness of many marriages, and a divorce rate that is far too high. I am haunted by the memory of human slaughter done by governments which is so senseless and evil, the death of so many caused by hurricanes, tsunamis, and earthquakes is difficult to even comprehend.

  • New Hope hosts monthly hymn sing

    Myrtle Cunningham surprised everyone and lead singing of “Love Lifted Me,” during the October hymn sing at New Hope Baptist Church. The congregation helped her celebrate her birthday with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” and a card.

    Brenda Rockwell lead the congregation with “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by David and his wife, Pam.

    Photographer’s work...

    A photographic image created by Jonathan Brown, co-owner of Monarch Photography LLC in Crestwood, has been accepted into the general collection of the 117th International Exhibition of Professional Photography, on display Jan.11-13 in Phoenix. 

    This exhibition takes place in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of more than 8,600 professional photographers and several photographic associations.

    Pewee Valley Presbyterian welcomes...

     The Rev. Joel Allen Weible, a second-generation minister with a previous career in theatre, has been elected as pastor of Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church.

    Weible, 43, will begin his ministry at Pewee Valley officially on Sunday. The congregation approved his call Oct. 19 at a combined service where he preached the sermon.

  • Oldham family hosts 75th annual...

     On Aug. 31, the Oldham family reunion took place at the Crystal Lake Clubhouse in La Grange. This marks the 75th year the family has gathered to celebrate. 

    The first reunion took place at Cherokee Park in Louisville. In 1984, after Oldham County Park opened, the reunion moved to that location. The reunion remained at the park until 2003, when it moved to Crystal Lake.
