U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Adam L. Brewer and Airman Eric J. Elsenbroek recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in  San Antonio.

They completed eight weeks of training in military discipline, values, physical fitness, and basic warfare.

Brewer is the son of Laura and Dave Brewer of Crestwood and a 2003 graduate of South Oldham High School. Elsenbroek is the son of Eric C. Elsenbroek of Crestwood and a 2006 graduate of Buckner High School.

Julie Auxier Nelson and Dwain Alan Harris were married May 26 at the Historic Mankin Mansion bed and breakfast in Richmond, Va.

The bride is the daughter of John and Mary Jane Nelson of Danville. She is a 1997 graduate of Somerset High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of Kentucky. 

She is the assistant director for marketing and public relations at the Kentucky Humanities Council in Lexington, and editor of Kentucky Humanities magazine. She is the former general manager/editor of The Oldham Era. 

Carol and Darren Stivers of Smithfield and Rick Williaams and Donna Bailey of Louisville announce the engagement of their daughter, Shauna Renae Williams of Crestwood to Billy-Joel Markham, son of William and Janice Markham of Crestwood.

The bride-elect is a 1999 graduate of Oldham County High School and a 2003 graduate of University of Louisville, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is employed as a classification and treatment officer at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex. 

The Kentucky State Reformatory recently hosted Witness, a seven-member band that brought its wholesome message to inmates in the KSR cafeteria.

Witness members Danny Sams, Brad Holland, Chad Talbert, Tony Fullen, Ryan Post, Marvin Yates and John Renner have performed together since 2003.

A wedding will be June 27 at Meadowview Presbyterian Church with Rob Warren officiating. The reception will take place at Frascelli’s in Crestwood.

Members of the Ballardsville Fire Department are planning routine fire hydrant maintenance throughout the district beginning next month. 

Anyone who has questions or concerns is asked to call BFD between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 222-1953.

Members of La Grange Fire and Rescue will test fire hydrants in the city and the district. 

Hydrant tests are planned through Sept. 14.

During this time, residents may experience some water discoloration.

The Oldham County Animal Shelter, Luther Luckett Correctional Complex and the Humane Society of Oldham County have formed a partnership for the purpose of serving the community in a many-layered program.

Many dogs end up at the OC Animal Shelter through abandonment or being given up because of owners’ loss of jobs and homes. Finding a new home for any family pet can be difficult after living in a shelter and without the dog being trained. 

The Tri-County Community Action Agency will display the FY 2010 Community Service Block Grant Plan in TCAA's office, located at 1015 Dispatchers Way, La Grange. The public is invited to view the plan between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 15.

The program is funded in part under a contract with the Community Service Block Grant Act of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
