Easton Lee Shelton celebrated his first birthday June 20.

He joins siblings Ryane, 13, and Sadie, 2.

He is the son of Chris and Christy Shelton of Shelbyville.

Grandparents are Wayne and Joyce Shelton of Pleasureville and Jim Puckett and Candy Miller of Crestwood.

Great-grandparents are Marvin and Alice Carpenter of Middletown.

Kenneth Neil and Mabel O’Neal Heilman were married on August 1, 1959, in Campbellsburg. 

Neil retired from Social Services after 30 years. Mabel taught in public schools for 28 years.

They are the parents of Ray Heilman of Campbellsburg and Cheri Simpson of La Grange.  They are the grandparents of Kala Heilman, Benjamin Heilman, Andrew Heilman, Kelsi Simpson and Truman Simpson.

A reception in their honor will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Campbellsburg Baptist Church. No gifts, please.

Jacob S. Martin recently graduated from the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox.

The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to becoming an Army officer. 

College students experience and examine the Army without being obligated to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their college.

Martin is a student at Western Kentucky University.

Cody Lasseigne of Pewee Valley recently earned the Superior Cadet Award from the Eastern Kentucky University Reserve Officer Training Corps, one of only two awards given by the school’s ROTC program.

He will be a sophomore at EKU in the fall. He also was named to the dean’s list with a 3.75 grade-point average. 

He is a graduate of South Oldham High School. He is studying construction management at EKU.

In August, Lasseigne will attend Air Assault School, of which there is only one slot for EKU ROTC.

The Open Door Christian Store will host Real All-out Worship at 6 p.m. Friday. 

Three groups will be showcased at this free concert – Carrollton Christian rock band “Resound,” local contemporary Christian artist Cara Hazard and Ballardsville Christian rock group, “The Spark.”

Joshua T. Mitchell recently graduated from the U.S. Army ROTC Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox.

Mitchell is a student at the University of Kentucky.

He is the son of Kenneth S. Mitchell of Sanford, N.C., and Cynthia R. Jorgensen of Crestwood.

Mitchell is a 2006 graduate of South Oldham High School.

After one year of glory, how long have your cleats sat in the closet longing for another chance on the field? Now there’s a way to get some good out of those remnants from seasons past.

Six girls from Girl Scout Troup 1454 are collecting used sporting goods to give away to families who need a new basketball, hockey stick or pair of cleats. They’ve collected more than 100 items since this spring,  they’ve inflated balls, sprayed deodorizer in the shoes and are almost ready to it all away.

U.S. Army Pvt. Stephen E. McCoy recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of David McCoy of Goshen.

McCoy is a 2008 graduate of North Oldham High School.

A group of Native Americans camped in Westport Friday in the middle of a 680-mile – or 12,000-year – journey, depending on how you look at it.

The group is canoeing the Ohio River along the entire Kentucky border from West Virginia to Missouri. They’re doing it to teach people about the history of Native Americans in Kentucky.

Many people think of Native Americans as living in the west, not realizing they’re also native to Kentucky, traveler Jerry “Two Feather”  Thornton said.
