On Saturday, May 14, 58 students representing 38 counties from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky were recognized during The Gatton Academy’s ninth graduation ceremony in Van Meter Hall, including Rohan Deshpande of Oldham County High School.
The year was 1987, and I was in the 11th grade. I had recently transferred from a small Christian school and was not yet accustomed to the ways of my public school peers. But I was fairly certain none of them would be wearing a homemade, black wedding gown to the springtime formal event.
Oldham County fans will have the opportunity to see The Misty Mountain String Band live at the Oldham County Arts Center, 7105 Floydsburg Rd. in Crestwood, for their CD release show on May 27 at 7 p.m.
By the luck of the draw, or in this case, the spin of a wheel, Goshen resident Madison Orman joined the likes of Martha Layne Collins, Kentucky’s first female governor, Gail Gorski, United Airlines first female pilot, and a host of other leaders.
