SURVIVE AND ADVANCE: Senior Braden Johnson throws complete game to defeat rival OC

Despite rallying to pull within one run in the top of the seventh inning, a play at the plate ended Oldham County’s season Monday night as they were defeated 3-2 by rival South Oldham in the opening round of the 29th District tournament.
Braden Johnson earned the nod for the Dragons and didn’t disappoint in just his sixth start back from injury, keeping OC hitters off balance for six innings of shutout ball.
He ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh though as Oldham County managed one final push to make things interesting.

Oldham County breaks ground on veterans’ memorial

More than 100 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a new veterans’ memorial in Oldham County, including World War II Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams.

Williams, a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima, was guest speaker for the event and said he was thankful to be a part of the ceremony.

"True Americans want to be involved in the future of America," he said. "We must continue to remind ourselves of the sacrifices that have been made by so many."

Botched drug deal lands Pewee Valley man behind bars

Pewee Valley residents called 911 Saturday night after hearing a verbal altercation end with gunfire.

Oldham County Police responded to the 9300 block of Hillridge Drive at 9:55 p.m. Saturday.

When police arrived at the home of Caleb N. Fast, 19, he said he had no knowledge of a gun or gunshots.

Police later found a loaded .25 caliber handgun laying in Fast’s backyard and arrested him on charges of robbery, two counts wanton endangerment, two counts terroristic threatening and tampering with physical evidence.

Animal control officer arrested for taking $25

An animal control officer who is owed more than $100,000 by county government for back pay and overtime has been arrested for allegedly taking $25 and forging paperwork related to a lost dog.

Police arrested Elmer James “Jim” Nichter Jr., 47, of La Grange, May 15 for forgery, official misconduct and theft from the Oldham County Animal Shelter.

According to court documents, the charges stem from an incident May 6 when a woman visited the Oldham County Animal Shelter in Buckner to claim her lost pet.

Agreement gives OCPD officers limited authority in Jefferson Co.

Oldham County Police Department officers now have the authority to operate in Jefferson County.

Oldham County Fiscal Court approved an inter-local agreement between OCPD and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.

Under the new agreement, OCPD officers have the ability to conduct investigations and pursue cars across the county line.

Previously, officers had no authority to continue a chase if a suspect crossed into Jefferson County.

Oldham Co. Schools unveils first-draft attendance boundary proposals

Parents got a first look at where their children may attend school in Oldham County in two years.

Oldham County Schools held its second round of redistricting forums last week, unveiling first-draft attendance boundaries for the 2014-15 school year.

District officials released eight boundary maps at a trio of meetings at the county’s high schools. More than 100 parents attended the forums.

Four of the proposals involve shuffling elementary school students due to the closing of Liberty Elementary at the end of next school year.

Goshen man found passed out behind the wheel in S-curve

A Goshen man who drove his vehicle onto the narrow shoulder of Ky. 329 near Nevel Meade golf course faces a DUI charge.

Police found Dennis M. Barrett Jr., 21, 1000 block of Forest Lane, Goshen, passed out behind the wheel of his 1999 silver Mitsubishi Eclipse about 5:30 a.m. May 2.

It took several minutes for officers to wake him, police said.  

A passerby thought Barrett’s vehicle had crashed in a dangerous stretch of Ky. 329.

An open letter to La Grange citizens

An open letter to the citizens of La Grange:

On June 3, the La Grange City Council will hear and vote on the second reading of a 1 percent compensation tax that will give our city the ability to pull itself out of debt.

This new tax will only be used for the retirement of debt that was incurred by the purchase and past infrastructure needs of the 1,000-acre Oldham Reserve business park.

After the debt is retired, the tax will cease to exist and no longer be collected.
