  • Invite God into your giving

What are two of the biggest reasons people don’t give their money away?  The two most common answers are idolatry and fear.

The idolatry of money is probably the most seductive idol that we ever face.  Jesus saw this clearly, and spoke strong words against idolizing money.  He said, “No one can serve two masters…You cannot serve both God and money” (Luke 16:13).

  • Be careful what you share

A while back, there was a story that circulated on social media about a woman who had escaped from an abusive relationship by dialing 911 and pretending she was ordering a pizza.

It made the usual Internet rounds.  It was published on websites like Buzzfeed and the Huffington Post and it even appeared in a British tabloid called The Mirror.  I remember seeing it appear across Facebook, with a lot of praise for the ingenuity of the woman who’d pulled it off.

  • Take time to rest

Unnecessary self-restriction and false guilt burden many of us and keep us from the peaceful times we yearn for.  Quiet time and time off to be alone is not an optional nicety; nor is it just for the retired, the lazy, or those naturally inclined.  It is for all of us.  It is valuable time well spent.

  • Perfectly good best friend

Ya’ know those perfect women?  The ones that are so perfect you can’t even hate them for being perfect because they are perfectly genuine and likeable?

I’m not one of those women.  My best friend is perfect though.  It gets kind of irritating, but I put up with her because she is a perfectly good best friend.

     The Law and Grace

     Dear Legislator,

As property owners in Oldham County, our taxes pay for many of the municipal services we enjoy every day. We are obligated and grateful to have the privilege to pay our taxes each year.

  • Does God really care about all our prayers?

Have you ever wondered if God hears the prayers of those who doubt He exists or don’t believe at all?
Through the years I have written many times about prayer, and implied in those articles is the assumption that the reader is a believer in Christ, and wants to know more about prayer.

  • Fall, get up and laugh

I remember the time two springs ago when I was determined to paint the sun room. Up early, to the hardware store gathering the gallons of white, the wooden mixing sticks, the drop cloths, and the one-time brushes that always harden, no matter what you soak them in.

  • Pumpkin spice everything

Here we are, back in the throes of pumpkin spice season.  I would say “pumpkin” season, but for many people, myself included, it’s more about cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and all-spice rather than the pumpkin itself.  It’s a running joke anymore, with memes and comics depicting everything from pumpkin spice motor oil to pumpkin spiced feminine hygiene products.
