  • Bob Mueller: The eight be-attitudes of marriage

My wife Kathy and I were married on February 17, 1990. During our sacramental celebration we expressed to one another and to the congregation our “eight be-attitudes of marriage.”

What really makes a marriage work? Marriage is far too complex for one simple answer or secret. For us the following eight be-attitudes express the features of a good marriage.

  • Seeing religious freedom in Oldham County?

Oldham County touches Indiana.  As such we in Oldham County, through news sources both local and national know that Indiana recently passed a “Religious Freedom Restoration Act.”

  • Dealing with challenging times

When we come to those challenging times that we feel like abandoning our ideals, giving up the struggle and quitting life, it is a stimulating experience to ask ourselves some very important questions, such as: Can good be defeated by evil?  In view of the change that is coming to my life, is anything left for me?  Am I a completely paralyzed person?  Is there something I can do?  Should I just fold my hands and suffer patiently?

  • Does our land need healing?

Since I moved to LaGrange in 1997 I have joined with a group of pastors to pray for a spiritual revival for our county.  We have not prayed for any one church in particular, or just our churches, but for all the churches of the county.  I have seen many positive things happen over those years.  Average household income has gone up, many projects have enhanced the quality of life and many people have tried hard to be strong community citizens, and our schools continue to be a bright and shining example of excellent public schools.

    Identity theft
The recent mailing from the Oldham Chamber & Economic Development was a petition postcard to be printed and signed complete with birth date and Social Security number.
This (these) cards could either be mailed or deposited in an Oldham County Library.
Considering the current problems with identity theft, one thing we should absolutely never do is to put such private information in a public location.
From the text on the card, this mailing apparently went to every registered voter in Oldham County.

  • A gray and misty spring break

Last week, my daughter and I, along with one of her friends, went to Ireland for spring break. Every Dubliner who learned we chose Ireland over sunshine and beaches thought we were crazy.
“Why of all the places in the world, did ya’ choose Ireland?”
“Ireland is gray and rainy, love. You should have gone to Florida.”
“Did ya’ lose a bet, did ye?”

  • A Democrat's view on the Republican debate

    By Jim Ewen
    Oldham County Democratic Party
After the spectacular national failure and disastrous consequences of 35 years of “Trickle Down” economics for America’s poor and middle class, it is hard to believe that the wealthy Republican businessmen running for governor who debated in La Grange Tuesday seriously believe more “Trickle Down” will bring good paying jobs to Kentucky!
