Today's Opinions

  • Some things you just can’t plan

I’ve always been a planner. I have a precise schedule in my head, a physical copy in a spiral-bound book and several alarms set in my phone. I guess you could call it a control problem, but I would call it preparedness.

I plan down to the minute of my day.

This is when I have to be at work. This is when I eat. This is when I go to the gym. This is when I go to sleep.

I even plan in my personal life. A phone call goes out to my mom at 5 p.m., my best friend at 6 p.m., dinner with friends at 7 p.m., favorite show at 8 p.m.

  • Mother’s Day Thoughts About Love

A little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast to her brunette hair. She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, “Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?”

Her mother replied “Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.”

  • Gratitude and affirmation

So often our minds want to focus on what’s missing, what’s wrong, what we don’t want.  How can we expect to make positive changes if our minds are constantly glued to the negative?

  • Leaving your worries behind

    By Mark Hoard

As one of those fidgety travelers who always wants to be on the go whenever I take a trip, the stay-in-one-place model of an all-inclusive resort didn’t really strike my fancy.

  • Saying goodbye to Simba

My cat died today.  I have started this article 20 different ways in an attempt to be more elegant, more worthy of the emotions my household is feeling right now.

     Citizens Academy Graduate

The La Grange Police Citizens Academy is a 10-week course sponsored by the La Grange Police Department. My wife and I recently had the opportunity to attend and it was time well spent.  The academy is free, by the way, and held at the police station in downtown La Grange.
