  • Protecting road funds

By Thomas Massie, U. S. Congressman

At a recent House Rules committee hearing, one of my colleagues from New York declared that the potholes in the roads in her district are so bad, “you can lose your car in them.”  Kentuckians and Americans from all over the country agree. It is long past time that something was done to address the deplorable state of the highways and infrastructure in this country.

  • Playing with the deacon's kids

Growing up as a Baptist preacher’s daughter had its ups and downs.  Everything they say about preachers’ kids is true.  We really are getting into trouble all the time, and doing things we shouldn’t.  But it’s only because we spend so much time playing with the deacons’ kids.

  • Versatile Squash

If you have started a garden I hope you included squash.

They are easy to grow, very hardy, and prolific.  There are many varieties, two main categories are summer and winter squash.  They both include many colors and shapes.

     Thankful to hospital staff

I recently spent three months in the hospital and six weeks of that time I was in the rehabilitation section of Baptist Health Hospital in La Grange.

I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing that help. The doctors, nurses, aides and staff are very knowledgeable and kind.

  • It really is a good world

It was the beginning of a hectic weekend.  The supermarket had been jammed.  The lines were long, and the girl’s voice was already tired and bored as she mechanically told me, “Thank you.  Have a good day.”

“Good day?” I thought cynically, remembering all the chores waiting for me when I got home.  “Not a chance in the world.”

  • The Truitt Five

It has been quite an exciting month around our house.  My oldest daughter, Shelby, graduated from Indiana University, and middle daughter, Abby, graduated from high school.

Son, Alex, is heading into his junior year at Purdue, and the babies, Hudson and Phoebe, are going into second and third grades.

  • Satan exposed: a diabolical portrait from hoof to horn

Two little boys were walking home from Sunday School where the lesson had been on the Devil and one asked the other “What do you think of this Devil business?”
“Well,” replied the other boy. “You know how Santa Claus turned out--it’s either your mother or your father.”
