    Thanks to fair board, a job well done

    To the editor:

    I would like to commend the Oldham County Fair Board for a job well done. On Wednesday night, children’s game night, I took a friend and her three children to the fair and everyone had a great time. All the free games, activities and give-aways made it possible for us to afford the evening.

  • Perspective on rising food prices

    During the last several months we have seen more attention focused on increasing prices of food products we use to feed our families. Some of the attention has accurately detailed market forces responsible for the majority of the price increases. However, some have painted a picture not completely accurate. We hope to share some facts about food and food prices.

    First, we need to remember that Americans enjoy the safest, most abundant and most affordable supply of food in the world.

    Conflict of interest, noun. The circumstance of a public officeholder, business executive, or the like, whose personal interests might benefit from his or her official actions or influence.

    Note use of the word “might.” Not definitely, not guaranteed. Just “might.”

    Grand marshal thanks community

    To the editor:

    I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people that were involved in the Oldham County Day parade and banquet. Being named grand marshal of the parade was both humbling yet exciting. I appreciate all of the hard work that made the event so memorable.

  • Storm water district necessary

    In the 1970s, Congress passed the Clean Water Act. The intent of that legislation was admirable, even if enforcement has experienced bureaucratic excess. Enforcement is the responsibility of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and in Kentucky is delegated to the Division of Water. The fact is that the waters of the U.S. are much cleaner since passage of the act, and it is worth all our while to keep the initiative alive through our best practices.
