  • Learning to deal with tough times

     My main premise is that the most creative, healing and human way for a person to reckon with tough times is by living in the present with others, borrowing light from the past and hope from the future.

  • Words every son needs to hear from Dad

     I had breakfast with my Dad and my brother.  We laughed.  We talked about serious things.  It was one of those breakfasts that fathers and sons are supposed to have, but rarely do.  

    The three of us are richly blessed that we can do that together, and always look forward to doing it.  A story came up that I think surprised us so muchthat we all remembered it.  

  • Now That’s Italian

     I just had the pleasure of a trip to Italy. The history, art and food were awesome. 

    My grandparents came from southern Italy to America around 1907.  Most Italians brought their culture, food and love of family with them (so do most immigrants).  Anyone who has ever seen, smelled and eaten Italian cuisine felt the cooking was an experience of satisfaction and love of the good life.  

  • Taking the fear from death

     Every one of us is interested in death because we know that some day we are going to die.  A lot of people are afraid of death, and their fear takes much of the joy out of living.  Many refuse to think about it at all.  But death is not a monster.  It is our best friend, and if we could be convinced of that, life would be so much freer and happier.  

  • Decorating with room to spare

      I stopped by my girlfriend’s house the other day and saw that, once again, she was moving furniture.  Lots of people enjoy rearranging their furnishings from time to time, but she takes it to a whole new level.  

  • What is true freedom in today’s world?

     “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”  These words from the first line of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence continue to guide our nation as we seek a balance between freedom (liberty) and a controlling government that protects our freedoms.  

  • Music City Aussie Style

      For the past ten days, Australian Sam’s mum and friend Leah have been visiting us from down under.  Sam will be with us for six more weeks, but the others began their journey back to the other side of the world yesterday.
