From staff reports

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) recently announced the design project for potential widening and improvements to Kentucky Route 53 south of Interstate 71 from Zhale Smith Road to Kentucky Route 22 at Ballardsville in Oldham County.

KYTC is exploring alternates to increase safety and improve capacity by widening Route 53, adding a paved, two-way, left turn lane and also realigning key areas to improve geometry. Along with those alternates, the Cabinet is investigating costs and impacts to utility facilities and properties associated with those solutions, including the consideration of environmental constraints and community perspectives.

A previous public meeting was held in 2008 to present three alignments that were previously developed. At that time, the public selected an alternate that included widening and some curve adjustments north of Blakemore Lane and complete horizontal realignment between Blakemore Lane and Kentucky Route 1315 to the south. The alternate is still being considered, with some adjustments to account for the changes that have occurred since the previous design effort.

This public meeting will be held to share information, review proposed alignments and gather input from residents and motorists. Handouts containing information about the project and comment sheets will be available at the meeting.

Representatives from KYTC and its design consultant will be in attendance to answer questions from residents and roadway users.

Input received from the public meeting and survey effort will be compiled and considered as alignments are refined.

The public meeting will consist of an informal format, and therefore, individuals can stop by anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on March 27 at La Grange Presbyterian Church, located at 1901 Prestwick Dr. in La Grange.
