  • School board passes tax increase

    Oldham County residents will soon see their property taxes increase to help the school district cope with a lack of funding from the state and federal government.

    The Oldham County School Board passed a four percent increase in the amount of taxes they levy on area property owners 4-1 Thursday night, with board member Walt Schumm as the lone dissenting vote.


    Court of Appeals Judge Allison Jones wants to be an active judge, but not in the way most think.

    Being called an “activist judge” usually comes with a negative connotation but Jones wants to flip that idea upside down.

    “I take my role as a public servant very seriously,” Jones said. “I want to do more as a Court of Appeals judge than rule on cases.”

    Dorsa and Jean Bell Shockey of LaGrange will celebrate 65 years of marriage on September 11, 2013. They were united in marriage in LaGrange at DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church and are long-term residents of LaGrange.

    They have four children: Viki Morris, Alana Alsbrooks, Jamie Shockey and Mark Shockey. They also have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Tailgating season is upon us.  College football comes to mind when you think of tailgating, but many sporting events have tailgating - professional, college, and high school football, soccer, and baseball and also auto racing, horse shows, three day eventing, etc.

  • I-71 exit ramp will close

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists that the southbound Interstate 71 to KY 329 ramp (Exit 14) in Oldham County will be closed for concrete pavement replacement.  The exit ramp is scheduled for closure September 6-11.

     KYTC recently awarded a contract to Gohmann Asphalt and Construction, Inc. to remove and replace the concrete pavement at the exit and entrance ramps on southbound Interstate 71 at KY 329.   The contract amount for this project is $772,000 and has a completion date of September 30, 2013.

  • NOHS Cheerleaders offer clinic

    The North Oldham High School cheerleaders are offering a cheerleading clinic on Sunday, September 8, from 2 to 5pm at the NOHS gym (1815 S. HIghway 1793 in Goshen). Kindergarteners through eighth grade and 4-year-olds through pre-k may attend. Cost is $25.

    Clinic attendees will lean cheers and participate at halftime and during the third quarter of teh NOHS home game on Friday, September 13.

    Each participant will need to wear shorts, t-shirt and athletic shoes. They should also bring a water bottle and a snack.
