  • Invite God into your giving

What are two of the biggest reasons people don’t give their money away?  The two most common answers are idolatry and fear.

The idolatry of money is probably the most seductive idol that we ever face.  Jesus saw this clearly, and spoke strong words against idolizing money.  He said, “No one can serve two masters…You cannot serve both God and money” (Luke 16:13).

  • Be careful what you share

A while back, there was a story that circulated on social media about a woman who had escaped from an abusive relationship by dialing 911 and pretending she was ordering a pizza.

It made the usual Internet rounds.  It was published on websites like Buzzfeed and the Huffington Post and it even appeared in a British tabloid called The Mirror.  I remember seeing it appear across Facebook, with a lot of praise for the ingenuity of the woman who’d pulled it off.

  • Take time to rest

Unnecessary self-restriction and false guilt burden many of us and keep us from the peaceful times we yearn for.  Quiet time and time off to be alone is not an optional nicety; nor is it just for the retired, the lazy, or those naturally inclined.  It is for all of us.  It is valuable time well spent.

  • Perfectly good best friend

Ya’ know those perfect women?  The ones that are so perfect you can’t even hate them for being perfect because they are perfectly genuine and likeable?

I’m not one of those women.  My best friend is perfect though.  It gets kind of irritating, but I put up with her because she is a perfectly good best friend.
