    Glad airport won’t come to OC

    To the editor:

    Thank you, Oldham County for voting against the airport. I was so relieved to see that this peaceable community decided to take a stand on disturbing the peace.

    After living in Louisville the better part of my life, I moved to Oldham County in 2004. The beautiful countryside, the birds, the few farms that are left were wonderful. But more importantly was the peace and serenity that seems to abide here. 

  • Grand jury indicts nine

     An Oldham County grand jury recently handed up the following indictments:

    • Paul A. Chitwood, 34, is indicted for flagrant non-support.

    According to the indictment, between April 14, 2008 and Feb. 27, 2009 he persistently failed to provide support he could reasonably provide or knew he had a duty to provide.

    • Shannon D. Murray, 29, is indicted for first-degree promoting contraband.

    According to the indictment, on Sept. 30, when confined in the Oldham County Jail, he knowingly made, obtained or possessed methadone.

  • Residents ask, “Why does St. Al’s need so much light?”

     When Greg Wilson moved into his new home next to St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley in August, he had no complaints. But now, the new lights above the church and school do more than light up the campus all night long. They are bright enough to cast shadows within his house, he said.

  • Local students named to Murray State dean’s list

    Four local students have been named to the Murray State University dean’s list for the fall semester.

  • Three local students named to dean’s list at Miami University

    Three students from Oldham County were named to the Miami University dean’s list for the fall semester. 

    They are Michelle Ann  Jones of Crestwood, Marcello Aldo La Rocca of Goshen and Stephen Randall Gibson of Prospect.     To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

  • Crestwood school is coming down

    By the end of March, the place where a school has stood in Crestwood for 50 years will be little more than a muddy field. Demolition crews are currently removing asbestos from a portion of the building, and ripping the rest to pieces. The gymnasium is the oldest portion of the building, built in 1949. The first classroom wing of the building was build in 1953, with additions in 1957, 1968 and 1978, creating a piecemeal, labyrinthine structure. The replacement building opened for class Jan. 20.

  • North Oldham High School seniors show how they’re changing the world

    Students in the senior project class at North Oldham High School held a showcase demonstrating their progress on a year-long project of their choice. The class emphasizes community service, original work and finding a mentor to guide their work.

  • May 20, 2010: School’s out for summer

     Classes for Oldham County students will end early six Wednesdays next school year, according to a school calendar approved at the Oldham County Board of Education meeting Monday night.

  • La Grange city council members question city’s operating hours, clock-in system

    At Monday’s meeting of the La Grange City Council, Council Member Melanie Woosley asked about the operating hours at city hall and said she’d heard people say they think it should be back to a five-day a week schedule. Last year the city decided to modify the schedule to longer days four days a week to deal with rising gas prices.
