  • The Nehemiah Principle

     It has been over 100 years since the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem, its walls and the temple. When the Persians defeat the Babylonians King Cyrus sets all the deported people free. Nehemiah is in Susa, the capital of Persia during the reign of Artxerxes, serving as the king’s cupbearer. Nehemiah hears a bad report of what is going on in Jerusalem, and fasts and prays. The king sees Nehemiah’s sadness and asks how he can help.

  • Maurer earns Christian Leadership Scholarship

    Patrick Maurer, son of Jim and Patriciann Maurer of Crestwood recently earned the Christian Leadership Scholarship to attend Georgetown College. 

    Maurer, a senior at Cornerstone Christian Academy, will receive the award in the fall. To receive a Christian Leadership Scholarship, a student must show Christian leadership and values within his or her community. The sholarships are renewable for all four years, provided that recipient maintain their active role in the Christian community at Georgetown College.

  • South Oldham grad vocalizes through his Masters

     Jacob Pence, a 2003 South Oldham High School and 2007 University of Evansville graduate will receive his master’s degree in vocal music performance from Ohio State University in June.

  • 25 Oldham teachers to receive a pink slip

     Private sector employees aren’t the only ones facing layoffs this year. Oldham County Schools officials plan to eliminate at least 25 teacher jobs for the 2009-10 school year.

  • Shape Note Convention is Saturday and Sunday

     The 14th session of the Harrods Creek Shape Note Convention will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Harrods Creek Baptist Church. 

    Everyone is invited and festivities include “Dinner on the Grounds” during the day and a chili supper Satruday night. Tunebooks for the event are 1991 Sacred Harp, Cooper and Southern Harmony.

  • Covenant UMC will host Town Hall for Hope event

    Covenant UMC is offering people the chance to participate in an event with faith-based financial guru Dave Ramsey at 8 p.m. today (Thursday). Thousands of venues across the country will host Town Hall for Hope, broadcasting Ramsey’s live presentation. In the opening half hour, Ramsey will offer straight talk about the economy, recession, foreclosures and more. He’ll carefully explain where we’ve come from, where we are now, and what we should be doing with our money at this time.
