  • Pewees’ limbs will be cleared earlier than expected

    With the combination of Hurricane Ike and January’s ice storm, Pewees have had limbs down in their yards pretty much since September, and they’re tired of it. So the city council decided to take matters into their own hands.

  • Volunteers needed to help OCDFS score scholarship applications

    Oldham County Dollars for Scholars is seeking volunteers to help score scholarship applications.  

    There will be sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19 and 20 at the Pewee Valley Women’s Club. Evening sessions will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10, 12, 17 and 19 at Fastline Publications in Buckner  Volunteers must not have had a relative who applied for a scholarship this year.  For information visit www.ocdfs.org or call Cindy Hack at 376-7653.

  • Next OCPD citizen’s academy starts April 14

    For all those wannabe police officers out there, or anyone wondering what it’s like to fire a Glock or to see the inside of a jail cell — here’s your chance. The next Oldham County Citizen’s Police Academy will run for 10 weeks starting April 14. 

  • Faith Community Church hosts Marriage Enrichment conference

     Faith Community Church will host Marriage Enrichment Weekend, a two-day conference, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, designed to help couples build a healthy and vibrant marriage. The conference, held at Gingerwoods Event Hall at 7611 Rose Island Road in Prospect, will teach couples how to experience deep spiritual, emotional, and sexual intimacy within their marriage.

    Pewee Valley was recently named a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. It is the 15th year Pewee Valley has received this national recognition.

  • Primary and kindergarten student registration begins March 10

    Registration for first-year Oldham County primary and kindergarten students for 2009 and 2010 will take place at the school they are districted to attend from 4 to 6 p.m. March 10 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11.

  • Learning Garden awarded $2,500 grant

    The Learning Garden Preschool and Child Development Center in La Grange was recently awarded a quality enhancement grant for $2,500. 

    Grants are funded by the Rural KIPDA Early Childhood Council and supported by the KIDS NOW initiative. Licensed centers and certified family homes in Bullitt, Henry, Spencer, Trimble, Shelby and Oldham counties are eligible, other eligibility standards are required.  For information about the grant, call 220-8624.
