Oldham County is reminding residents that a county-wide burn ban comes into effect May 1.
The ban refers mainly to burning of unwanted debris, which some residents may want to do as part of their spring cleaning routine, but prohibits all types of burning.
Drop, cover and hold on.
Oldham County is participating in the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Earthquake Drill, a simulation exercise organized by the Central United States Earthquake Consortium.
At 11:15 a.m. April 28, residents, businesses and schools are asked to drop to the floor, find cover and hold on to a stable object.
Local officials are warning residents who refuse to evacuate flooded areas that help won't be on the way.
North Oldham Fire Department's training and fire prevention coordinator, Don Dahl, said Monday that residents who choose to stay in homes surrounded by flood water cannot be reached by emergency personnel.
